As for the Da Vinci Code, I thought it sucked. It was so obviously inaccurate that it was laughable. I guess I have my 12 year Convent education to thank for not being sucked in by 'bad history'.
I think the fans of Da Vinci would rather believe bad history than the truth because the truth is way harder to live with.

If you regard both as mystery novels, then Rowling succeeds in keeping the reader guessing -- at least this reader. In The da Vinci code the only thing that keeps one guessing is how long it is going to take the characters, one of whom is a "cryptography expert" to spot some of the more obvious clues.
