A couple of weeks ago my son, who works in a bookshop, came home with a book The big ugly monster and the little stone rabbit. He made some comments about what he thought was the undeserved popularity of The da Vinci code, and said he thought The big ugly monster and the little stone rabbit was far better, and that it was literature

Though I haven't read Holy blood and holy grail, I have read The messianic legacy by the same authors. The good point of The da Vinci code is that at least the latter is a genuine work of fiction, and not fiction masqueraiding as fact, which is what Baigent et al do. And like all conspiracy theories, it becomes tedious quite quickly.
