it shouldn't. it's just an awareness that we have have our care and oversight paid for through our tax dollars already, and calling universal health care "socialist" is madness if you are aware of this. without having government oversight of social services we might as well live in huts off in the bush somewhere... without these services we would (generally) have to worry about lots of things we take for granted and thus not be able to spend time doing the great innovative, progressive things we do have time to do now. it's why humans forms social and cooperative groups as an evolutionary trait.

it *shouldn't* but after 40 years of deregulation most of those agencies are pretty much dominated by corporate interests and are less and less about serving the commons/common good.and, yes, the socialist thing is absurd.
