MAYBE I HAVE TOO MUCH TIME ON MY HANDS LATELY

It has been raining a bit lately and I haven't been able to accomplish much. My good friend miss_kat_1968 inadvertently reminded me of one of my favorite dishes from my youth the other day and so I made a batch. Here is what I had for dinner last night:

ED'S CHILI SPAGHETTI

That chili spaghetti looks sooooo yummy!

Congrats on getting published by Amiright and getting published again by Urban Dictionary! And than you for using my name in the sample sentence for slobloggets! I feel immortalized by this!

I hope you don't take my use of your name in that particular example personally. I'm sure you have a very neat and tidy work-station and would never eat or drink around a computer.

My chili roks, btw, if I do have to say so myself. I'm going to get the stuff for my coney island dogs shortly.

OK, just keep on thinking that.....

Mmmmmmmm. If you were a woman I'd propose.

Maybe you'd better hope Gitta gives it a try. Didn't you say she liked chili? Although I don't know if turkey chili and cabbage would have the same impact. ;) I can't believe she doesn't like noodles. Is it a wheat allergy thing or something? I know the Germans usually love their noodles.

You'd probably have to go into training before you got here, but that goes for anyone who'd visit New Orleans. :)

There are few things as American. Hey, Texas Belle! Do you make chili? Do you prefer yours "Texas style"? I really prefer the tomatoes in it myself.

Yeah, I kind of think so too. I know in the old west, they didn't have all the fresh ingredients to make things more flavorful, but you don't have to continue to do things the way they did when they had no other option. I think the whole "tomatoes and beans, etc. are travesties" thing is silly. I'm not crazy about Cincinnati Chili but people who grew up with it like it so there's nothing wrong with that. Taste is subjective anyway and very individual. If someone gives me a hint that makes my stuff taste better, I'm not going to ignore it because it isn't traditional. I often combine leftover red beans and chili to make wonderful chili-beans that would knock your socks off. The beans are already loaded with flavor and they meld together great. Okay, I'mm off to get my hot dogs and cheese for my coneys. Cheers!

Now that's a picture I'd like to see. Spaghetti is so much fun just by itself. I've always been famous around here for my chili. I once served it at some friends' house and a mutual friend was really enjoying a sample bowl. His little boy approached the table and he stopped him with a hand to his chest and said, "Get back, baby!" Now, I do like mine spicy, but I usually tone it down at least a little for guests. However, this was for my friends who liked it hot too. That was too funny.

We don't make Cincinatti chili, but Mr. Ed makes his own kick-ass chili. It's not too spicy, just for me, but delicious. It has sausage meat along with the hamburger and beans, olives (black) and a bunch of spices. It is divine, if I do say so myself. *g*

I had a feeling Mr. Ed made some good chili. I don't think of it as having subtle flavors as in Cincinnati Chili myself, but maybe you'd enjoy it since you don't like a lot of really spicy stuff. By sausage meat, do you mean pork sausage? I use ground pork and ground beef in my tamales (when I make them which is rare because of the time involved) and I do like it in chili too. I just don't bother with the extra ingredient because I'm lazy. I might do it the next time if I see it on sale. I also mix my red beans (when I have frozen or leftovers) near the end of the cooking and that is great too, especially on flour tortillas with the fixings. Do the boys like their dad's cooking, or are they fussy like most kids I know?

Usually we buy Italian sausages down here and take the meat out of the casings; although, we have found a hunk o' sausage we really like. *g* Those tamales sound fantastic. The boys won't eat chili, or at least not a whole bowl. They don't like "mixed" foods in general. They love anything he grills, and the exception to the mixing is when he grills vegetables. He usually puts in carrots, potatos, onions, and maybe squash. So, they're picky, but not too bad. :)
