This is such an emotionally difficult scene, but you handled it very well. I liked the detail of Arthur and Molly's initials in the tree sparking his frightening daydream about Tonks.

I especially liked this exchange:

“I don’t want you waiting for me.”

She grinned, and it reminded him of the impish look on the lawn gnome he had passed in the garden. “That’s too bad. You should have fallen for someone else. And,” she looked into his face with sparkling eyes, “In case there’s any doubt; I love you too.” No lawn gnome ever looked like this. He would take the image of her eyes with him, breathtaking, sexy, sparkling eyes. “Go. Do what you need to do.”

I think this bit encapsulates Tonks's personality so very well. She's passionate, and playful, and strong, and vulnerable all at once, and it all shines through in that brief exchange.

Well done. :)

I'm sorry it's taken me a while to have a chance to read this, but I really, really liked it. There are so many wonderful word choices and turns of phrase, and the emotions of the characters -- even Dumbledore, in his brief appearance -- are pitched just right: sad and moving without being overdone. It's absolutely lovely.
