Taking Back Halloween

Oct 14, 2007 22:10

A young woman with pink hair in a black coat, thick boots, and a yellow and black scarf sat outside, silently watching the random smattering of people walking down the street past her bench. She appeared lost, wistful, and impossibly young. She gazed ahead, seeing nothing, and frowned into space. She crossed her legs once, uncrossed her legs, and ( Read more... )

I liked this. It had a really quiet, reflective tone that seemed so apt for Tonks' mood, and the idea of Sirius in a niffler suit is very amusing.

Thank you for reading it -- it's been a long time since I wrote fiction, especially for others to read!

I'm a bit sorry you didn't continue to the actual ball - I was keen to find out what Remus would think was a Beatles-look, lol. I especially liked the way you used the Day of Retribution prompt, as a way of regaining Halloween and turning it into a celebration, rather than a time of grief. This has got a nice, relective tone to it as Tonks explains the history of what led to this and hints of more than friendly interest from Remus.

Perhaps your second round prompts would fit with a follow-up and then we can find out what happens over the punchbowl? ;)

Hmm, good call -- I think I will write the party with my new prompts. It'll be a fun challenge to fit whatever prompts I get into a party! Thank you for reading my first "real" attempt at HP fic.

Liked this! My only gripe is that Remus, as part of the 1st Order, would have known that Gideon and Fabian were killed and that Alice Longbottom was Alice Watson. Probably not how involved Tonks' mother was to both of their stories though. Minus that, I really enjoyed the soft mood of this piece.

I especially liked this line.

This year, she’d spend it with Remus Lupin at the punchbowl, instead of explaining to her mother why Charlie was so much more interested in her school chum Evelyn, who was clearly less interesting than her own beautiful daughter.

That whole paragraph sort of reminds us not to take anything for granted and that life goes on- you just have to deal with it as it happens.

I guess I didn't mean to make it sound like he didn't know these facts already. Poor use of grammar on my part - I was trying to make him sound interested in her morose musings.
Thank you for reading, though! Because this had no beta, I'm really glad you pointed out how that was interpreted.

Hooray for Ted -- I like the idea of deliberately taking back Halloween from being a time of sad memories. And now you've got me wondering if Sirius will really stay in his stuffy costume for the whole party! I'd love to see his conversation with Andromeda, though.

What a great use of your Day Of prompt. And like gilpin25 I'd love to see Remus dressed as a Beatle, lol. Which one? ;)

I'm thinking John. Definitely not Ringo, and about 10 years ago I'd have said Paul, but sometimes I think Paul is being a jerk. I'm pretty sure I want him in glasses, so I'll go with John.

I'm also pretty sure that my 2nd round entry is the sequel to this.
