Yesterday morning, I was dreaming about random things... helicopters and family and a telephone call. As the phone was ringing in my dream, I knew it was my uncle calling from India. I woke up, that instant, to the sound of my cell phone. When I answered it, Scott informed me that there were 7 Train bombings in Mumbai. There are few times in my ( Read more... )

Aww, when have you thought about it before? It'd be cool, definitely... except I can't write worth peanuts. You could do all the writing, and I could.. edit? Or something. Hehe.

Yeah, but where does that place me in religious doctrine? Meh.

Kim said she wasn't pleased that I didn't post with one (I've been driving her crazy with quotes and talking about them), so I had to go find one and edit the entry. I might find another one though. I'd rather have one of them performing. But I want them both in it.

you misspelled "existence" ;)

and i think that "bad person with the right faith" is an oxymoron. like you said, "No faith promotes the destruction of innocent peoples for the sake of personal benefit." if a person is doing so, i don't think they're truly being faithful.

Heh, thanks.

Yeah, but they hide behind religious doctrine to promote their personal benefits. Your or my interpretation is not the same as the leaders of whatever religion we're talking about. Take the Crusades... all those people thought they were doing God's work and killed so many people, and presumably they did get rewarded for it. And that's not the only religion I could give an example for. The religious leaders declare those people honorable, but they people they killed weren't. Which is my issue with religious institutions. If everyone just followed the ideals behind faith instead of the leaders that claim they are.. I don't know. Either way, it's depressing.

I think most people who think of the Europeans in the Crusades as honorable do so because they were Europeans, not because they were Christians. And I don't think it's fair to make generalizations about religious leaders, since a lot of religions don't really have definable leaders. People like the Pope and the Dali Lama are extreme examples. Then there are the lesser ups who still have a lot of power, but it's not like most of the world population knows who they are. Then what about other denominations of Christianity? Who are the leaders of the Methodist church? Or the Baptist church? Or Judaism? No one person or group makes the call on anything. Sure, there are people with power, but it's really very much on a local level, which means each church or other institution will make its own decisions and judgment calls. Just as many religious leaders speak out against such things as speak for it. Yes, there are monsters, but I think it's unfair of you to allow those monsters to form your generalization.

heh, religion is always a heated topic, no matter who you are discussing it with, or in what context. it's just one of those things that everyone has to figure out for themselves. so, to put my two cents in, i don't think anyone can tell you what to do except for God. or your supreme thing that is in charge. like, for me, other people in my church don't approve of the same worldly doings, but i don't wish to disrupt things, so i appease whatever, but it doesn't matter that much to me because they are only dealing with superficial things, not the stuff that comes directly from god, or in other religions, the supreme being(s). I think that to impose your religion upon others is wrong. people should believe in what they wish to believe, but while they do so, they need to follow the natural rules of society. while i do believe that my way is the only way for me, others might find ways that work for them. if i believe they are right or wrong does not matter to me; what happens to them is their destiny, not mine, right? while i can show ( ... )
