Yesterday morning, I was dreaming about random things... helicopters and family and a telephone call. As the phone was ringing in my dream, I knew it was my uncle calling from India. I woke up, that instant, to the sound of my cell phone. When I answered it, Scott informed me that there were
7 Train bombings in Mumbai. There are few times in my life where my skepticism seems just that. I don't know. I'm far too cynical to believe this to be a true sign of anything, but the coincidences are kind of eerie.
All the more ironic is that this more than likely was the cause of religious differences. No faith promotes the destruction of innocent peoples for the sake of personal benefit. So why does it seem the followers of every faith do it anyway? Kashmir is no holy land; it is nothing but a economic prize. Power and wealth and religion are forever tied, but the true effect of that union doesn't really hit you until you realize the countless lives lost in the name of God/gods.
I refuse to believe in an existence where a good person with the wrong faith will be punished, or a bad person with the right faith will be rewarded. I refuse to believe the blood on the hands of religious extremists will be washed clean upon their deaths. Maybe that's why I just can't follow institutionalized religion. I believe in many of the morals and the values of certain religious edicts, but I can't believe in the name behind them. Where does that place me?
On a more completely trivial note: I'm obsessing over
Tegan & Sara Oddly though, I started obsessing because they're just so funny live as opposed to just liking their music a lot (which I do). They banter and joke on stage and that intrigued me, so I went crazy looking for live stuff from them.. and there is SO MUCH. Tegan & Sara fans are crazy. There's a bootleg of like every freaking show. Which is good for me. But they're FUNNY. Kim doesn't think they are, but they ARE. I promise. Check out some of their live videos on youtube. Funny stuffs.
Edit July, 22 2005: Okay, I suck for not noticing this earlier, but HOW AWESOME is it that this stupid post about religion is the 666th? Yes, thank you, irony. You never let me down. (yes, we ARE talking Alanis Morissette irony, shut up.)
