Sell Us On: A European City

So we've been meaning to take a trip to Europe for a few years now. We always say it's too expensive, or we don't have time to plan it, or our schedules won't allow it, or whatever. Istanbul is on the European side, I recommend it wholeheartedly! Perhaps not what you have in mind for a trip to Europe, but it does win on architecture, weather, food and cost. There's a lot of variety in the architecture, you get the classical, Byzantine and Ottoman stuff. Topkapi and the forts from which the invasion of Constantinople were launched are awesome and castly, but churches and mosques and Grand Bazaar are the real treats. The food is fantastic and cheap, there are a lot of nice places around and the doner, soups and breads and such you get by little shops are great too. We also had the fortune of staying near a bakery. Plus, European price for airfare, non-European price for everything once you get there. I could go on for a while, we were there for a week and went around the Aegean coast for a week, it was fantastic. You could probably combo it with some Bulgaria, Romania or Russia to get some more Europey Europe in the trip, but I don't know much about these places myself.

My sister's in Dublin studying theater at Trinity, and I think she might be in a play in May...
