I hope I've built some credibility as a fair-minded, non-judgemental sort of person. I've built my life around accepting other people's views as valid. I say this because I don't want to sound like an ideologue when I get so very very angry at the arguments against same sex marriage. I don't see how any one can rationally believe that denying ( Read more... )

Again, the core of the argument isn't anything reasonable or logical, it is Biblical. You can't reason with that.

You just can't.

Or just plain fear?

Anyway, ditto on the above. Though it's one of those debates where nobody ever convinces anybody else. And drives me insane.

Not to rain on people's hate the haters parade, but there IS a single "reasonable" and "logical" reason that same-sex marriage will not become legal in this country (unless we have a massive turn-around): we can't afford it.

The hit that social security and other government programs will take is immense, not to mention the difficulty in dealing with "death of spouse" payments - especially with the high mortality rate of people involved in homosexual relationships.

Add to that insurance companies (who are some of the primary funders of anti-same-sex marriage campaigns) and the already massive cost of health care, and the problem just mounts.

By the way, I believe that as long as the government is giving marriage certificates to people with a history of spousal abuse, murder, sexual assault, etc., the government has should not deny those same certificates to people who have committed no crime except to love the "wrong" person. I just wanted you to be aware that there is a very powerful motivator, beyond religion, that's funding this

OMG A rational argument!!!!! That makes so much sense it hurts.

The only thing about that argument is that it means it WON'T happen (at least not nationally), it doesn't mean it SHOULDN'T happen. That "should" part is the real sticker.

Thanks Paul. You're the best.

But isn't it better to problem solve than to go on living in a society that discriminates against people who have done absolutely nothing wrong or immoral ( ... )
