Don't get me wrong, I am in favor of same sex marriage, however your quote here amuses me as many people see it as immoral, although that is because they are basing their argument and idea of morality on parts of the Bible that they pick and choose from and as Thea said, you can't reason with that, it is about faith.
Personally I agree with what you are saying although I think they should bight the bullet and just legalize it, however let the churches deal with it in the you can't get married by the church way. That way it settles both things, if the church thinks it is immoral, they don't have to marry people there, however they could still get legally married and have that recognized by the government. This would fix the whole church and state being separate issue that they seem to be having, because if you are going to argue that it is religiously immoral and that is why it can't happen, then you can't argue that church and state should be separate, and in this country it is. The government should just say "suck it" to the church and do what is right by part of it's population.
