Yay!
For the first time in my life, I am the proud owner of a bicycle...
With the help of seasoned cyclist Mark, I bought my very first set of wheels (not counting my roller-skates and roller-blades, please) today at Vivocity's Giant Superstore...
It's an Aleoca Sub-Pro 26" (although the bike itself said "Econ-Pro"), and costs only $59.90 (usual price is $90+, offer ends tomorrow!)...
And here it is...
Pardon my excitement, but even as a little child my cousin Thomas had always been trying to teach me to ride a bicycle properly, to no avail. Although my father and younger brother had bicycles, they were either too huge or too small for me (excuses, excuses)...
And in my secondary school days, my class had a barbecue/camping trip at East Coast Park. I was trying to impress a girl that I had a big crush on, by renting and riding a bicycle along with her...
I ended up crashing my bike head-on into hers, injuring both of us... Don't ask...
In 2001, I was offered a leading role in my very first short film, "The Postal Rule", after I lied to the director that I could ride a bike with ease, which was a crucial aspect to that role.
I immediately roped in the help of my buddy Bryan, and he spent some hours at the East Coast Park, giving me a crash course (literally) on cycling...
So I managed to clinch that role, (after some hardwork and plenty of scrapes along the way) and was able to cycle rather proficiently (or act like I could) on film...
But after that incident, I had very few encounters with another bicycle... until now...
After he'd patiently guided me with useful tips and techniques, and fitted the new bike properly, Mark and I took turns to ride to my place. But, I swear, the short route seemed to take hours to complete. I was completely soaked in perspiration by the end...
I am still very much a novice on the road, so I am sticking to the pavements for now...
Still, I couldn't resist a midnight spin around my estate just now...
The conclusion?
I really need more practice (as well as a more comfortable seat pad)... :-P
