An updated version on how to tag on
merlinxarthur.
PLEASE READ because there are a few new changes due to some things that just came to my attention. So for new posters and especially frequent ones, you should take a look.
Old version for reference.
In addition, please don't forget to read the
GENERAL RULES before posting.
1. Why do I have to tag my post?
Tags serve as both index and advertisement (mostly indexing and it helps keeps everything so nice organized). Simple as that really. :D
2. How do I tag?
♦ You can enter tags by hand (but if you misspell or mistype something it won't show up).
♦ You choose straight from the existing tags. Use the "select" option to the right of the tag box for all tags options (but make sure your entry is set to post to the
merlinxarthur community so you can have access to the tags.)
Note: Please do not create new tags. Only the moderators are allowed to create new ones. You can find more info
here.
3. Which tags do I use? (THIS IS THE PART THAT'S NEW. PLEASE READ.)
There are only really three main tags that are always needed whenever you post a fanwork.
♦ Your contributor tag (1st time posting tag, if you don't have one yet)
♦ A category tag (fanfic, fanart, fanvid)
♦ A rating tag (rating: g, pg, pg-13, nc-17)
Everything else is optional or added when it applies or it's needed.
NEW PART.
What I recently realized is that
each tag has a 1,000 entries limit. Actually, LJ has a 1,000 entries page view limit in general which is inconvenient. I have no idea why I never knew this before, but this means each tag that have over 1,000 entries, the old entries past that limit gets dropped. The entries are all still here on the community, but they won't show up under a tag anymore that has over 1,000 entries. You'd have to manually sort through all the entries on the community to find them.
With that being said, we have several tags that have well over 1,000 entries. The "fanfic" tag alone has over 9,000 entries so far. So in an effort to make sure old entries don't get dropped anymore, what I'm going to do is make new tags for the main tags used on this community that have over 1,000 entries. Unfortunately, I can't do anything about all the entries that have already been dropped (that's about 8k+ entries in the fanfic tag alone) because I do not have the time to manually edit the tags for each post (nor do I want to, to be honest, I'm sorry! dfjhafsa).
The new tags I've made are:
♦ 1st time posting [2]
♦ fanfic [2]
♦ fanart [2]
♦ rating: g [2]
♦ rating: pg [2]
♦ rating: pg-13 [2]
♦ rating: nc-17 [2]
**I was going to make a fanvid [2] but that tag only has over 500 entries in it so far so I'll make a new one if/when it'll surpass 1,000. We also have some "genre" tags that are over 1,000 entries but as those tags are optional, I decided not to make a second tag. But if you feel that I need to do so, drop a comment and I shall see!
PLEASE use these new tags when you are posting any type of your fanwork from now on. I realize that people who are used to posting here a lot in the past might forget so if you make a mistake, don't worry about it, I'll correct the tag for you until everyone gets used to it.
NOW TO THE ACTUAL TAGGING.
Note: To request a contributor tag (once you've made 5 posts) please comment on

Other Stuff
- We have tags for memes, meet-ups, discussions, episode reviews, fic recs, and whatnot. Most of them can be found under "resources." They don't require a contributor tag.
- If you want a community/fest/etc promoted, please read our
general rules first and then visit our
Ask the Mods post to request posting permission.
- If your post falls under a category that doesn't have its own tag yet, feel free to request a new one (on here) or in our
Ask The Mods post, and I shall see what I can do.
If you have any questions or comments or suggestions, please leave them here (AND I HOPE NONE OF THIS WAS CONFUSING!!) Hopefully LJ will get rid of the limit all together? One can dream, eh?
