Tonight's episode places were totally magical!
Thank you for these posts although we know that some are hard to find

Totally magical indeed! They make such excellent use of locations - so evocative! Well, I suppose I would think that, wouldn't I? :-) But they just keep blowing me away. ♥

I have to admit, I spend most of this episode squeeing over the boys and the locations in equal measure *g* My train of thought into a word document included "OOH THAT FOREST" and "CAERPHILLY CASTLEEEEE" XD

Hee! I was right there with you - in spirit, anyway! So much squee over so many pretties of all kinds. ♥

I haven't visited the Great Hall since my pre-Merlin days, though, so perhaps someone else can confirm if that was used for the Fisher King's throne room...?

It looked familiar but I can't confirm it for sure. I've only got two photos of the Hall and I don't think either of them are looking in the right direction!

This is the clearer one, which doesn't help much!

Thank you for this, hon! Someone has now commented on the website, saying they'd only just been to Caerphilly, and thought the throne room was 'the room directly above the gateway into the inner bit of the castle' - in which case they've opened up a building I haven't even been in before... (I can feel another Locations Trip coming on!) They are going to post photos to Flickr, so hopefully we can investigate virtually in the meantime.

Thank you for this, though! I really missed seeing the hall when we were there - but there was a wedding going on. Hengist would have felt free to interupt, but we didn't. :-D I like this photo you've taken - sometimes it's hard to get a feel for the space and size of a room from a photo, but you've captured it well! ♥

I don't think it was the Great Hall either. I was in Caerphilly last month and I think the room they used as the throne room was a smaller room (although still quite big), which contains a fireplace and a number of window recesses. You can see the edge of the fireplace in a couple of scenes. Sadly I didn't get a photo of the fireplace and I can't remember which bit of the castle it was in - it was raining so heavily the day we were in Caerphilly that we had to give up. Blowing a horrible gale too. The guy in the gift shop said "You're the bravest people I've ever seen!"

It was definitely up a floor though, so it could well be the room your commenter is referring to. I just remember that we kept coming back to it, no matter how many staircases we took they all seemed to lead there!

Here is the other end of the Great Hall, taken probably just where kathyh was standing but looking the other way:

Yes, it is :) It was sunny and quite busy the day we were there and the light was wrong for taking a photo in that direction. Sorry you had such awful weather the day you were there.

After I looked at the pictures again, it was the Great hall. I recognize the seating next to the fireplace.

On the other hand, the background behind Merlin didn't look like anything I'd seen in the Great Hall. Could they have made it smaller somehow or used a different location for those shots? Very confusing. I suppose that they'd use the same type windows and fireplace elsewhere in the castle.

Looking at it again, I'm completely wrong. It can't be the Great Hall. Wrong shape, too small, not enough windows.
