This challenge is where I give a discussion topic and members discuss it! It is as simple as that really but make sure the posts you add don't just say 'I agree' as that won't be accepted.
A Remedy to Cure All Ills wasn't one of my favs either for similar reasons. I never got why Uther would trust anyone over Gaius (same with the Witchfinder in S2) who is really rather loyal given Uther's stance and atrocities. Really, Uther. Really?
You'd have thought Arthur's obliviousness would have been his downfall by now, huh? Everyone in Camelot is asleep except for Morgana. Hmmm. I guess she must just be immune.
I loved Elena in The Changeling but this ep fell short in many regards. Though Merlin's "You're all mad, people should marry for love" tirade made me warm inside. :)
Elena was good. That's not the point! And Merlin fighting for love marriage warmth the heart, no doubts! I just think the content of the episode could have been part of another episode aswell, rather than being an episode by itself.
When i wrote my "why" about A Remedy to cure all ills, i was also thinking about changeing to The Witchfinder for Series2. There were many ponits where i was wondering about Uther!
You'd have thought Arthur's obliviousness would have been his downfall by now, huh? Maybe it's just that I didn't get enough sleep last night, lol, but this made me think of those old cartoons (I want to say Tom and Jerry...? Can't swear to that though) where the cute baby animal is sleepwalking, and the other characters are running around suffering all kinds of horrific mishaps in keeping the path clear... :D
More on-topic, that tirade of Merlin's in "The Changeling" was awesome-- I love it, too. :)
S1: 1x12 - To Kill the King I know this is a favourite for many, so forgive me, but I think this ep is the beginning of not really being able to understand Morgana and her seeming fickleness. If I could buy that she helped plot to kill Uther because she thought that would avenge Gwen's father and Gwen, then I would have probably liked this episode more but I'm not sure that was it. She seems to be angry but her anger seems somehow misplaced, idk.
S2: 1x11 - The Witch's Quickening Yeah, there's a theme here. Again, I get that Morgana wants to feel like she belongs and so it is natural for her to seek out those like her but her 'fickleness' about the only family she's ever known again disturbs me. I do love creepy kid Mordred in this ep, though, and his ominous "I shall never forget, Emrys. And I shall never forgive" (or something like that haha) and Morgana's fiesty "go to hell" to Uther but I just did not feel this episode like I wanted to.
S3: 1x09 - Love in the Time of DragonsI like a good Gaius-centred ep but this wasn't one

Y'know, I always felt that Morgana's feelings toward Uther have always been justified, even when they seemed fickle-- he did horrible things, but had been her father figure for years-- but I never liked how it tended to rain down doom and destruction on people when she tried to deal with it in the earlier seasons. Later on, it's of her own doing (and I still don't particularly like how her anger expanded to encompass Arthur, Gwen, Merlin, and basically the whole of Camelot, yet at least that can be chalked up to brainwashing or whatever from Morgause), but I didn't like how trapped and alone she was in the early part of the show, even if it was a set-up for later plot

1x07: "The Gates of Avalon" In a land of myth, and a time of magic, there's a kingdom where magic is punishable by death and yet NOBODY. EVER. SUSPECTS. THE MAGIC USERS. I mean, the episode itself is mostly fine and I enjoy watching it, but Uther's willingness to go from gracious host to executioner because his son is taken with the young lady always makes me blink, and then there's the whole NOBODY SUSPECTS MAGIC. *ahem* Sorry for shouting, but c'mon. It wouldn't even be so bad if, at the end, Arthur was aware that he'd been enchanted, but that they just go on acting like everything was normal.... just, no.
2x07: "The Witchfinder"This one seemed out of left field to me. First of all, with Uther's determination to eliminate magic, I have a hard time believing that this is the first time we'd see him consulting a witchfinder (it'd make more sense to me if he kept one on hand at all times). Also, and maybe this is a result of rewatching frequently and out of order, but I just wish they'd make up their minds over whether the

The bracelet thing was something i was really angry about! As you said, Merlin always knew when there was a magical object somewhere nere, but not now? He was always like "Camelot spy" on everything which seems not real, but not this time, even when his close friend Gwen was suspecting to being so cruel to betrayal her love? waaaaaah! noone ever found the bracelet, Merlin never visited Gwen in the dungeon, Elyan didn't even said good bye to her sister??? I'm going mad!
Yes!! I mean, if they wanted to play with it at first... it STILL makes no sense that Merlin doesn't sense it or even remotely suspect it (ESPECIALLY since he realizes what's going on with Lancelot), but FFS have somebody find it! Figure it out!!! ARRRRRRGH, that is the part I hate most about the whole thing.
I always thought... "Oh 5mins left, Merlin will find that bracelet, show it Arthur, asking him where it's coming from, saying Gaius found some kind of rune in it and have an evidence to say it's magical without revealing his own magical skills (even i think they should finally reveal his magic in S5 *praying*)!"
