This challenge is where I give a discussion topic and members discuss it! It is as simple as that really but make sure the posts you add don't just say 'I agree' as that won't be accepted.
Picking only one thing is hard! I would change the way Morgana's arc has been handled, big time. The character written in S1 is totally different to the one we see in S2, then different again in S3 &4. I think it really jars to watch as the things she's doing just don't fit whith how they orignially wrote her at all :/ I'd almost rather she'd always had a wicked side in someways, because at least then it would have been something that grew rather than something just just appeared idk...it just really bugs me how poorly her character was developed.
I completely agree the entire Morgana arc was handled wrong. I would have Morgana come back in series 3 morally gray instead of out right evil. I understand that there had to be a years worth of difference in her behavior but for her to come back completely evil destroyed the Character of Morgana. Don't get me wrong I love Katie wither she's playing good Morgana or evil Morgana she's a great actress and is doing well with the material she's been given, but she deserved better.
It's all about the "jump" that the Authors insist in making every single year. It's like they don't even bother explaining things that need to be deepened. Fail!
This has been an issue of mine for awhile-- I would've liked for them to explore her in more depth, especially interacting with Merlin. But then again, now they've killed off Lancelot, too, and some of the red-shirt knights (in S1 especially) carried the names of legendary knights with stories, so really I'd like to see all of those characters utilised more than they were.
From season 1 I would completely erase Mordred because they introduced him as a common druid boy whereas in the legends he is Arthur's and Morgana's son. So i would change that so that Mordred could appear later as their kid. In season two i would change the ending of 2x12 (the fires of idirsholas) because what happened after Morgause took Morgana away is meh.. I totally resent Morgause for that xD In season three i would change the way they handled Morgana's character. If you look back at what she was in S1 its completely unbeliavable and not realistic the dramatical change she suffered. I mean, really? xD From a girl who defied her tyrant father in order to save a stray druid boy to a woman who doesnt give a damn about innocent citicienz? Nah.. completely unrealistic xD
I really wanted Mordred to be an adult... it sounds creepy having a child as your worst enemy. Even if I loved the 1x08 episode a lot... but I'd have kept the identity hidden for a while.
Keeping Mordred's identity hidden for a while would have been an excellent plot device! Introduce creepy kid then somewhere down the line - BAM! - the creepy kid is Mordred of legend! Why aren't you writing this show? :)
I was kind of hoping that they'd make Mordred turn out to be Morgause's son (in many legends, he's the child of Arthur and Morgause). It would've also worked well to explain Morgana's draw to him, since she felt that similarly with Morgause.
Like many people I think Morgana's transition/arc was handled horribly. It was rushed and depended upon the audience to assume what previously unnatural for the character. Psychologically, I understand when S3 comes around and she learns the truth of her parentage--the emotional slap she feels as not being recognized for who she actually was. That is a catalyst, that is a reason to loathe and hate. I think the arc between S2 into S3 simply depended too much upon things that were not shown, and easily out of character.
Earlier still, was Gwen from S1 into S2. I feel like after the death of her father she got the make over you see in those cliche movies. When the 'ugly duckling' (you know, because her hair is up and she wears glasses) 'blossoms' into the beauty she is. And that's the only way she seemed to change--unless you count only being a love interest. I feel that so much of the distaste people see in the fandom for Gwen is based here. S1 you see a strong, if not awkward woman loving, proud, and caring for everyone and

I completely agree on what you said about Uther not recognizing Morgana as his daughter being the final catalyst for what she became after. Damn Uther, if he had actually accepted her and recognized his parentage then maybe we would still have a sweet and innocent Morgana!
I don't think she'd be the same S1 Morgana we know and love. I just think it a more logical point in which to turn on everything--we can see how much is hurts her, where as there a year where we assume Morgause was showing her images of Uther and going, "BAD. EVIL. KILL HIM."
Which since they didn't show a damn thing, is how I assume it went. ;P
*applauds* Yes! I could totally see the psychological impact of after she found out, but the stuff before the whole Stockholm Syndrome Morgana just *blech* unbelievable. And Gwen, gods, I feel like 'm always harping about that, always. *rolls eyes* Oh well, such is life, and such is our dear Merlin, no matter how much we want the holes to be filled or the plots to make sense.
Oh, season one was pretty perfect to me, to be honest. I don't think I would have changed anything. Perhaps the only thing was that I wouldn't have killed Will because he was such a lovely character ♥ From S2 definitely the A/G romance... it was SO wrongly initiated that it really ruined the show for me. They could have played around it SO much better. S3... my lovely Morgana turned into a smirk joke. This character has SO much potential that it hurts that now people aren't seeing her motives and her transformation in a villian. We needed to see her growing into her powers, experimenting with Morgause, cry over Uther's betrayal. We've only see the anger, I wanted to see the pain as well. That would have let people understand why she's like this now.
"It really makes me wonder why they bothered to introduce her as a sympathetic character initially if they weren't going to bother showing how she went from there to total evil."
completely agree with you. People don't understand now why she went from white to black in a heartbeat. I think that the producers assumed we would all take the transition as it was and not bother with trying to understand the motives of the "villain" but i think it backfired on them. I suspect they underestimated the love that fans have for Morgana, which i sometimes believe is stronger than the one they hold for any other character, and so its understandable that we all want to understand why she is who she is right now and the motives that drew her to it.
