I totally agree with your toy stance. As a psychology major with a concentration in child development, I've read a ton about how harmful tv and toys with flashing lights and whatnot can be at that age.

Have you set up any sort of savings account or college fund for Colin yet? Maybe people can contribute whatever money they were going to spend on a toy to that instead.

Here is a site I came up with that might inspire you - complete with BPA free rubber duckies of many assortments. You should be able to find products elsewhere, too.. this just happens to be the first I came up with. I have also seen and felt playsilks - they are wonderful. I was also thinking cloth blocks, if he doesn't already have some, which may be a little old for him right now, but he could definitely "grow into." Some come with bells and things inside... and they're washable.
