• we are going to the zoo today, I will feel bad for the animals in cages and think I shouldn't be supporting it... then think about the animals I have in cages and realize the hypocrisy... no more pets. really. (I do love the rats though ( Read more... )

Glad you're enjoying movies again.

And not getting validation for your creativity sucks. I love your art very much, but it does seem like it's even harder with art than it is with writing, to get it to actually pay. That's why I originally never wanted to do any of that stuff for pay--didn't want to keep on getting told "no" about stuff I really loved.

This entry makes me hopeful, though. I think you can find a way to do something that makes you feel good about contributing to the family, and then you might feel more comfortable about just doing your creative stuff for the pleasure of it--and then, when the financial pressure is off, you know how it is: then suddenly someone will come along and actually offer money for the art!

I get great enjoyment, from time to time, but also great pain. Haha.

but really I know it's the subject matter
What makes you say that, if you don't mind me asking? I wonder if he's right, that it just hasn't been marketed properly.

Personally I really like your art and would certainly pay for it (especially if you are selling prints online or anything) - and I do like the subject matter. I'm generally not impressed by most art that I see, so yeah. I think your work is really special.

thanks a lot. I sell on etsy - there's a link on my lj... I tried putting my most "generic" works there. the art I used to do before trying illustrating was mainly psychological and personal in nature which isn't exactly "wall art".

I know what you mean about zoo guilt. I want to visit our zoo, even though I'm sad about caged animals.

Going to art school might be fun. Wish I could take more art classes.

I don't get a lot of enjoyment out of life either...(boy, I'm a big help).

i listened to this writer speak on this CBC radio show a few weeks back, and arriving in his fourties he had writes this book about punk buddhism or something...he was really into punk and buddhism at an early age...so anyways, he talks about this japanese wondering monk who apparently has his thumb on thepulsebeat of zen...sighs...lol...so anyway...suffering! this notion is misunderstood often in the translations the author goes on...and says a more keen understanding of the knowledge of suffering is that no matter how good you get at something...or how much you obtain of something...it could be better :) lol....chuckles.out
