My parents were travelling with my nieces and nephew yesterday. Alice is seven, Zachary is five, and Ellie is three. Two years ago my sister and her husband moved themselves and the kids from Yonkers to northwestern Virginia for reasons that have not been adequately explained ( Read more... )

Yeah, I'm not holding my breath for Virginia. We took Alice to Disney a couple of times. When she was four she asked about our relationship. On hearing that we were married she about killed herself laughing and had to call everyone she'd ever met. "Listen. A girl married a girl." And then she'd get laughing again until she was breathless.

My niece rocks. She'd better. She's picking out our nursing home.

Well, as Alice will tell you herself "I'm not the average seven year old, you know." When she was not quite two, she was explaining to everyone that when it was light here it was dark in Africa because that part of the world was away from the sun--complete with props.

I love that kid.
