if at first you don't choose right, choose again

Looks like this whole Trying to Move to New York thing is at an end, at least for now, and I've kind of known it for a while. Today's trip just cemented it. I don't have the spoons or energy or money to keep going back and forth again and again, I've been trying for over four months at this point, and I'm no further than where I started. Eventually ( Read more... )

I really don't think Oklahoma would be a step up the ladder for you, but if/when I get my own apartment again, you are TOTALLY welcome. Failing that, what's a metro area nearby that might be more doable for you financially/practically? I don't know anything about that area of the country. I hear Pittsburgh's nice, and there are Tropies about!

<3333 I'll keep an eye out. I don't think I can offer a permanent place (would have to talk to roomie about that) but if you need to just get out and crash for a bit you're more than welcome.

Man did you try!! Finding a place to live in NY is often a complete clusterfuck.

For one thing this might not be the best season. Stuff is happening all the time there but I think there tends to be more changeover in high summer (because, my theory goes, people graduate and move, then leases are in units of years, so that it's a cascading effect of summer moves). If you don't wanna abandon the idea, you might have better luck if you get a bit of work nearby and save up until the summer, but that'd be a while to hold out. So not a suggestion, just a thought.

One of my friends in Boston (who actually is also named Meredith) got back to me with some tips in her field, which I don't know would apply to you, but I'll forward you what she said.

My moirail and I have been talking about forming a fandom island commune for ages. If we get around to it I'll let you know. There will be scones.

Dang in a few weeks I'll be heading back to maine until the new year but... if you need to crash with me for a bit in ohio next year, you are totally welcome! I have a fairly spacious apartment so long as you don't mind a cat. I don't think I can offer a permanent place to live because my parents are paying for the place, but I could certainly host you for a few weeks if you need it.

In the event you decide you'd like to relocate to the mountain west, my house has a room available. ;)
