you've got to push all the doubt to the side of your mouth

So after I made that last post I cleaned up and drank some tea and made some toast and watched way too much of a hilariously terrible Nicolas Cage movie on TBS (all of which felt like monumental accomplishments, let me tell you) and had a thought, which was: I only ever feel comfortable genuinely being kind to myself, and not guilty or second ( Read more... )

Two friends of mine are looking to sublet an apartment in Manhattan for the month of August - I have no idea what the details are, but it might be a place to start? This is the Craigslist ad - I can vouch for these people, they're both awesome:

Unfortunately, I am now firmly re-ensconced in DC and out of the NYC area, but if there's anything I can do to help, let me know. <3

Sadly, that's almost $200 out of my price range, but it sounded good otherwise. Thanks, though!

<33333!!!!!!!!

If it is okay, I will mention on social networks that I have a friend whose character I can vouch for looking for a roomie and some kind of work (without mentioning your name yet). If you would like me to link to anything relating to this you may have posted on Craigslist or anything, I would also be glad to do so. By now the matesprit and I know a lot of people in that area in various fields (though perhaps not as many as Ali!) so I'll offer whatever advertising services I can.

It's totally okay! The more I expand my network the better, I figure. Thank you so much!!!

Absolutely! And are you looking for a sublet now or something more long-term?

A sublet, probably. Stuff I've heard has made it sound like without steady employment I won't have a lot of luck finding something more permanent, but I could be wrong about that? Also if it turns out being super gross or whatever I won't be stuck there for a whole year.

I'll make a post and see if I hear anything back!

Also, like, I realize this is old hat from me, and I hope you know there's never any pressure since it's your brain, but it sounds like stuff has been super rough lately. I just thought I'd pass on that I know that Shobhi (and possibly some of the other BMC counselors?) has reduced summer rates for students at her practice and is happy to see people. I know it's not exactly what you wanted re: CBT, but she was wildly helpful for me with dealing with internalized stuff. So maybe it'd work as a stopgap until you can find a new person in your new place if it's something you're interested in continuing. <3.

Also, you might try getting in touch with JB or SH, both of whom were english majors (I assume you will be able to figure out who I mean, since there were not THAT many of them!). I know they both recently moved to NY and might have pointers/tips/connections/jazz hands.

Thanks for making that post! I will probs hit up those ladies as well. Do you know if they moved to NY with jobs or...without?

As far as I know, they're both working, and I think JB has a roommate and SH is living in a section of town that might be out of your price range, but they might be able to help somehow! :) And J is one of my favorite humans.
