Slowly, life had been returning to a sense of normalcy for the eldest keybearer. After the many Board parties, after the discussions of the desert expedition with Ienzo (Ienzo, who had found a way to coax out what had long since been buried), after the many restless and sleepless nights he had had to endure at the cost of his own foolishness [stupid, Riku, even to protect someone, that power should never have been used], things were returning to their peaceful ways. Work had been the same, day in, day out, and he found himself growing ever closer to the breaking point, because of the stupidity of the Board, out of growing concern for those left in the streets, for the dangers of the desert and the dark ( ... )

Down into the streets, Riku ran, keeping to the shadows as he followed the Heartless. They scoured the streets, green ooze dripping like saliva from their mouths. So many of them...and still, he could see and hear many in the distance, finding helpless citizens to prey upon. He, too, felt weak and helpless, unable to provide assistance for all of them...

You are no savior. You know that. The greatest you are is a martyr, and even then you cannot save many with your sacrifice. Face it, Riku...you can do nothing.Growling, he continued running, keeping pace with the creatures before him. "If you're not going to help, then butt out," he hissed, Way to Dawn forming in his hand. The beasts immediately sensed the presence of the weapon, turning and attacking. The first few were easily dispatched, the keyblade slicing through them with relatively no problem, but the next seemed formed differently...almost mutated. Their eyes were like cats, with the single sliver of black in the middle, jaws large in proportion to normal Heartless ( ... )

Look at the way they swarmed. She hummed in delight from her ally. They were searching out other hearts, other people. But they fed off of dark hearts as well right? That is what her own studies taught her. So these weren't the only good specimens...

Humming she watched the silver haired- wait. Silver haired boy?For a moment she thought she was looking into an image of a young Sephiroth. Long hair, glowing sea green eyes. She stared at the image for a moment as a heartless came to her side. It pawed at her long dress, purring out noises of desire and head twitching left and right. She bent down to the smaller one, a shrimp among the pack ( ... )

The dark sapped at him as the Heartless drew in closer, like a wave of black. It was almost impossible to tell one from four, and the darkness was so strong around him that it made the keybearer dizzy. It filled his senses and he was practically intoxicated with it again, stumbling back. A Heartless took the moment of confusion to swipe an angry claw into his arm, spinning the teenager around, forcing him to stumble. The others pressed in closer at the chance to fell this one with such a strong heart, and Riku growled, regaining composure, and striking with enough fervor to drive them back again.

Ironic, how you're still so easy to fell with enough darkness around. Pathetic.

With a glare to no one in particular, Riku gripped the Heartless that injured him and stabbed it clean through, forcing the dark to come apart and fade into nothing. "I can't," he hissed. "I won't lose." But they pressed in closer, keeping him from moving much, blood running down his left arm. "Why are so many after ME?!"

Even Heartless can sense what lies ( ... )

As he was prone to do, Rufus was working late, once again. He had not checked up on the clock at all, had not checked his watch, had not checked anything to see what the time was, but he was certain that it was late. The bell had rung what seemed forever ago, and he still, scribbled away his signature on important documents ( ... )

Rufus had adjusted almost too well to being without his Turks if he'd considered himself alone on the premesis. He'd been in the process of cleaning his gun when he heard the same thud of pressure outside, the sound hardly going by anyone's notice, much less a Turk's. Eyes snapping up to look forward and then to both sides he watched quietly as Rufus dashed from the room and practically flew down the stairs ( ... )

With Axel at work, Roxas had picked up the habit of wandering alone at night. He could only sleep when the other was beside him, which made for horrendous sleeping schedules. One or the other, or both sometimes, were out until all hours of the night, attempting to kill the fiends that seemed to be growing in number by the day. Kill twenty, and fifty are there the next day. It was a vicious cycle, but at least it kept people fed in Metropolis ( ... )

All Kairi could think to do was sigh as she lay in her bed, quiet. She was almost exasperated once the chime of the midnight bell reached her ears- another sleepless night. She'd really thought she'd fit in here in Metropolis- still, she found it hard not to be a little freaked by the whole experience ( ... )

The night was young, invigorating. Midnight was the best time to be doing anything, and for the youngest of Sparda's children, Dante was lounging on his sofa at his shop, drinking a little while reading the paper, his eyes focused solely on the death tolls.

Fiends Kill 10 in One MonthFuck, this city just sucked. Law enforcement wasn't good enough, and the hunters were getting mauled. Hell, he himself had even gone out to destroy some of them on his own, fully ready to not get any pay out of it. Sadly, he never did. Luckily, he dragged back his own kills, stripped them raw, and cooked them nicely. Add some buffalo sauce, or some BBQ...ugh, now he was hungry. Licking his lips a little, his stomach protested to the next sip of vodka he kicked down. Hadn't been drinking for too long, and it took him a long time to get intoxicated, but his stomach hurt. He needed to eat, and soon ( ... )

... what the fuck was that noise?

At the moment he was working on his lessons down the street. Sure, it was a little LATE for learning to play base with a buddy, but, they just got out of work about two hours ago and dammit he wanted to learn. But there was a whole lot of noise, and the cursed base was now missing more notes than ever. He never missed ANYTHING."Fuck, hold on..." Peering to the window he saw what was going on. Wow. That was a lot of heartless. But when did they drool and rip out people's real hearts? ... Huh. "Hold on Dave. I'm gonna brb. Things to kill in the square ( ... )

Lucien threw off the coat he had now been instructed to wear in the hospital and drew his dagger.

He could not feel death here. Not anymore. But he could SEE it. It was HAPPENING. And here, in this place, he could not even guide the souls to their proper fates.

He felt so helpless...

No matter.

He dodged a few swipes from the... demons? demons, and dispatched two with his knife. He knew he needed a better weapon, and soon, but that would come in a moment.

Kicking off a wall, he managed to grab the lower branches of a tree and clambered into it to get a better view.

Already, several fighters who seemed better at demon hunting than he were working at it. He recognized at least two Hunters from having had to operate on them a few times. He also knew that said hunters were two of the ones who showed up least often, which meant that they were good at what they did.

Right, so those outside are in good hands... but those INSIDE...The building SWARMED with heartless ( ... )

.... what was taking this elevator so long.... It was forever slow. Come on now. I mean.... sure it's a tall building but... I'm in a hurry...

The heartless seemed to have everything under control. It would be a matter of time that either the fighters would get through majority of the numbers, and the power of the masses would fade off. She just... had to get upstairs. They had to get upstairs. To that thing on the top floor. Just up.

The cries of her creations were getting worse, and it somewhat worried her. She stood, tapping her foot several times against the tile. Come on... come on... "Hmm hmhmhmm.. hm hm hmmm hmhm hmm ( ... )

Lucien was grace incarnate.

His weapon was neither blade nor whip, it simply WAS, and it followed his commands. His spells lent him grace of foot and strength inhuman.

He had not fought like this since before he died.

He had forgotten the thrill.

So it was that he was surprised when suddenly, the demons backed off.

"... what's this? Afraid of me...?"

No matter. If they were going to give him a clear path, he could easily get into the building.

Running up the steps, he burst through the doors, searching around for any survivors.

The heartless still fled from him, which was unnerving... and much to his dismay, the halls were empty. Though there were clear signs of struggle - the blood of others, for instance - he could see no bodies.

... destruction of the corpses themselves...It hurt, to not be able to look into Death and question the lingering souls, or to feel who was still alive... but it would have to do. Surely, there was SOMEONE ( ... )

Why did he have to come in here. HIM of all people. She had enough troubles just making sure that everyone came off her back but... if he were to get hurt!

It wasn't that she cared about him. Alma did. And his well being in the end could mean her own well being. The heartless, once in her arms, scurried away, all the monsters backing off in the corridors to the walls, resisting the need to attack. To their eyes, he had a large heart, a delicious heart, and they weren't aloud to eat it!?

Her tense body relaxed, and she turned from the door to face Lucien. Her back pressed against the metal frame. The moment it opened, she would be inside, and closing the door with her companions faster than Lucien could catch up to her. Only a little bit longer..

"Hello Lucien..." she whispered, her voice still musical, calm, a smile on her face. If she could lull him closer...

He would be hers.
