People will always be more willing to listen if you point out gently where you think their course needs correction, rather than just shouting at them to correct it.
The problem is that the people who have been discriminated against and oppressed are so angry that they have been discriminated against and oppressed that they feel justified in their anger (which they are). And that's why they yell. Plus, they feel they shouldn't have to take the gentle, "teachable moment" approach as generally they are the ones nobody bothered to be gentle to while they were suffering discrimination and oppression.
I understand that. But I know in my case the yelling just makes me less likely to change, because if all I get is abuse about a failbelief, then it reinforces that bad memetic structure with the anger.
(My first LJ Idol post, on the 'Here There Be Dragons' idea, comes to mind here; my dragon feeds theirs and theirs feeds mine and the cycle just gets worse.)
