To those who are unsure of Matt Smith and the Eleventh Doctor:
I say, give Eleven a chance. He’s very different, but he’s still the Doctor. He isn’t Ten, yes, but he’s not suppose to be. Matt Smith had the intimidating task of following one of the most loved Doctors just as Peter Davidson had to deal with Tom Baker’s popularity. Season Five is

Being Human-Season three finale was a tear-jerker...
Wasn't it =(? Still, it was probably the only thing that could be done, for more reasons than one :[. Within the show, given how wracked with guilt Mitchell was about what he & Daisy had done, the way the "Old Ones" were intending to ( ... )

As far as trying to "rank" Doctors in my head I've always found that a bit strange.
It is, for exactly the reason you said *Nods*, as well as the established fact, if you will, that change has always been part of the show: after a few (or several) years/seasons, a new actor inherits the role. It's still hard not too, though, because it's pretty much inevitable that different people will get attached to different Doctors. For me, it's not so much David Tennant's Doctor was better than Matt Smith's, because both actors brought/bring elements to the role that make it great in unique ways, but Ten just really earned a lasting place in my heart for some reason 8). I'm trying. I really am. I've been trying for a season-and-slightly-more-than-a-half now, but...he's just not doing it for me. Yes I agree that David Tennant was a very tough act to follow, and you're right about Peter Davison following Tom Baker too. But in my opinion Peter hit his stride right away and before I even got to the end of his first season, I completely and utterly loved his portrayal of the Doctor. It's been more than one season now and I still can't get into Matt's portrayal. Now, in all fairness, Moffat's writing is a lot of the problem for me because I really really dislike what he's been coming up with lately. I think I'd like Matt better if he had better stories to work with. (For example, I thought he was pretty good in "The Doctor's Wife," and he wasn't too bad in tonight's episode either.)

Oh yes, Five's great. But then all the Classic Doctors are great in their own ways, really. Even Tom Baker, who is my least favourite of all of them, has his moments.
