Top tips for cooking with pre-schoolers

My days of cooking with pre-schoolers are numbered (approximately 185, assuming LB starts school mid-September), so I thought I would note down what I have learned, so I can look back fondly and also in case it is of use for other people.
Cut (with scissors or a mezzeluna) )

A is getting over his fear of sticky fingers and into a bit more 'cooking'.
R is more into it but gets bored rapidly.
Both could be kept quiet by peeling carrots from age 2. We have fat traditional peelers, not Y shape. R could even end up with a peeled carrot!

Decorating of stuff is the best entertainment. Ready made pastry can be cut out into 'biscuits' and decorated. And a block of marzipan can be dyed different colours and made into sweets. Basically edible play-doh!
Currently the kitchen is too cold so we don't do much. I did find early on that even standing on a chair didn't give enough height over a bowl on the table, so had to put mixing bowls on the floor.

Mezzaluna might be useful for me too!
