Second cup purchase - a few questions.

Hey, all! I really like this group in LiveJournal--it's been helping me ever since I started to look into purchasing a menstrual cup. Two months ago, I purchased a Lena small and this is my second cycle with it. The first one didn't really happen as I only tried it on the last two days (negligible flow) because before that I was ill and didn't feel ( Read more... )

i would stay away from femmycycle if you're narrow and tense...it's huge. if you do go for a softer cup, the effort you spend getting it open is a tradeoff and you'll have less pressure on your bladder. i think it's worth it, but it's such a personal choice.

Softer might help; even if you are 'tense' some soft cups like Si-bell/Caricup or Natu (which has less ridged stem grips) are more narrow and straight sided in their profile, so they could fit better ( ... )

Although I've never had restriction with urine flow, I too prefer softer cups. I get a better seal (with regard to leaking) with a softer cup than with a firmer cup.

You might try a SckoonCup in whichever size you please. I've only owned the large size, but I understand their small and large have the same firmness. It's much softer than either my small or large Lunettes.

That said, it does seem to me that small Lunettes, although they aren't a super soft cup, may be the best starter cup. It was my first cup and still my favorite. I've also noticed that whether or not it's people's favorite cup, it seems to work well for more people (especially beginners) than any other cup -- that is to say, very few people appear on here to get a Lunette and then decide it's not a good cup for them. The small Lunette is quite a bit softer than the large.

Okay... so I get that I need a softer cup (thanks for the tip), but considering that I need a shorter one as well... can anyone here tell me if the meluna classic firmness is already softer than the lena? Or would a soft be a better option? I'm thinking of getting the shorty for those days.

I live in Brazil, so some things aren't that easy to come by, but I might be able to find the sea sponges. As for readily available cup brands, the easiest brands to get here are fleurcup, inciclo, meluna, luv ur body and mooncup, though I could probably get some of the others on Amazon.

Thanks to all who've commented so far!

The MeLuna Classic are a stiffer cup, as I understand it. They are made of thermoplastic elastomer rather than silicone. The small Lena is probably much softer than the MeLuna. MeLuna does make a "soft" option, though.

The Femmycycle is a rather large cup (although very soft), so with your low cervix, I am not sure if a femmycycle would fit you. How far in is your cervix on "low" days?

The Si-Bell is shaped very similarly to the Lena and is way softer. I couldn't even use the Lena due to the firmness, too-short length and the fact that it created so much suction that it made me bleed during a dry run. Femininewear.co.uk ships all over so you may have luck with them. Now I don't own a Fleur but that one is also the same shape and may be a bit softer than the Lena as well. I think the LUB will be too long for you but it's the right softness.
