Nope, no viola, because I like to be mean to violists. =p Just kidding, I didn't think any of the Meisters fitted the image the viola portrays.

the thing is... quartets usually have 2 violins, a cello, and a viola.

Yep they do! But none of the Meisters fit the role, sadly.

As for what song, I had Pachelbel's Canon in D in mind. There's a variation that uses three violins and a bass. If you push the third violin an octave down, it becomes playable on the cello. =)

"Maestro", "Meister", that's so funny. The fic itself is a good piece, much like the music you described the pilots to be playing. And its nice to have a sort of au-ish theme.
