Disclaimer: I don't own the characters, though I wish I do. I also like to think I've given Tieria my cello. The light colour of the natural wood would complement his pale complexion, methinks!
A/N: I have been told by my beta-er that Tieria is OOC. Personally, I think as the series stands now, he is softening up. Please comment on it. ^^
Special thanks to: my mad-woman-"twin-sister", beta-er (who incidentally is also the one who suggested putting my fanfiction on my unused LJ)

Setsuna tugged at the starched collar of his white shirt. He was feeling hot and uncomfortable, and it wasn’t doing anything to improve his mood.

“Remind me again why I have to wear this ridiculous outfit?” he complained; fingers fumbling to loosen the bowtie that threatened to cut off air supply.

“Because this is an important mission, and we want to do this properly,” Lockon replied soothingly. Gently pushing olive-skinned boy’s sweaty hands out of the way, he straightened the offending bowtie and smoothed his suit for him. “Besides, this is the perfect disguise. No one would think to look for Celestial Being’s Gundam Meisters in a bunch of musicians.”

A loud, sharp cough drew Lockon’s attention. Arms crossed, Tieria frowned at the Irishman from behind his round glasses. “The walls have ears,” he said pointedly.

“Right, sorry.” Lockon grinned apologetically. “Anyway, Tieria, you amaze me. The person whom I’d most expected to disapprove of the plan was you. But you seem rather calm about it.”

Tieria shook his head, his purple locks rustling against the material of his dinner jacket. “I neither approve nor disapprove. While I agree with Setsuna that this whole plan is silly, you do have a point when you said we’re safest in this disguise. It seems I have no choice.”

“Aww, come on, Tieria,” Allelujah said, clapping Tieria on the shoulder. “This’ll be fun! We Meisters - err Maestros - never really do anything special together.”

“Hmph,” was all Tieria said in reply.

The Meisters sat in dour silence backstage, Setsuna occasionally fidgeting with his bowtie. Finally, as the first guests arrived, the quartet took to the stage.

Their job was simple: to go undercover as musicians at the reception buffet for the conference between the world leaders, the Meisters were to keep an ear out for anything that sounded like it might require Celestial Being’s special attention. Wang Liu Mei and her ever-present assistant would be there as backup. In fact, the girl was already here. Dressed in elegant black, she was socializing comfortably with the other diplomats and reporters.

Liu Mei smiled to herself as she watched Celestial Being’s famed terrorists took up their instruments. Stripped of their Gundams, they looked so harmless… No one would suspect them of being the very same pilots who stopped a border dispute in China just the day before!

As first violinist, it was up to Lockon to give the cue to start. Flipping his long brown locks out of his eyes, he winked at Liu Mei and nodded to Allelujah. In turn, the latter raised his bow and played the first resounding note.

It was impossible to tell Allelujah’s expression; as he bent forward to bow his double bass, his long fringe obscured his face from view. But Liu Mei could almost feel his deep, rich passion in the long notes he played, reverberating throughout the reception hall. She was almost mesmerised by the calm, reassuring bass line he played, and by the way his biceps bulged noticeably even through his suit, whenever he pulled his German bow across the strings.

Liu Mei counted eight long notes before Lockon raised his bow in a dramatic fashion, and began to play. Show off, she thought, though she could not help but admire the way the Irishman swayed with the music he helped create. It almost seemed as if he were dancing. Liu Mei smiled wryly. Damn Lockon, he was probably one of those men who could capture the hearts of young girls with just one smile. Playing the violin with such tenderness was simply overkill.

At a look from Lockon, Setsuna joined the cannon with a clear, unwavering F-sharp. IT was amazing how different the two sounded, even though they played the same instrument. Setsuna’s melody did not have the sexiness that Lockon managed to portray in his music, but instead had an unabashed innocence that was equally appealing. Even the slight frown that creased his brow served to present the image of a schoolboy, eager to please on his debut performance. How cute, Liu Mei thought, though she was sure the Kurdish boy would never appreciate such a comment.

Tieria added his piece to complete the tune. His notes rang out mellow yet strong, sweet yet firm. Liu Mei was surprised. While the music the other Meisters played somewhat reflected their character, she had not expected this of Tieria. The impression that the purple-haired youth had always given her was of a cold and aloof person. And yet, here he was, playing the cello with such spiritedness, sometimes dark and sensuous, sometimes clear and bright: as much an enigma as the cellist himself.

Four Meisters, four string instruments, four different histories. And yet… and yet, when they played together, the music seemed to flow like a quiet stream, peaceful and persistent. This was the strangest thing: in a quartet, each person played a different melody, but if they played it well, something beautiful would be the result. Such music required skill, and more coordination than it took to carry out Celestial Being’s missions together. It was clear that the Meisters had what was necessary to accomplish the task. Liu Mei dwelt briefly on the mystery of where they had gotten such talent from.

A drawn out D in three different octaves brought the opening piece to a close. Liu Mei was abruptly startled out of her reflection. Slightly embarrassed, she realised she had been staring at the quartet for the whole seven minutes they had been playing.

“Good, aren’t they?” the diplomat next to her commented, gesturing with the wine glass in her hand. “Such young men too. That bassist can’t be more than twenty. And what about the second violinist? Probably one of those child prodigies you always hear about. I wonder where they come from.”

Liu Mei gave the stage a sweeping glance. They had just started another piece, a vivace, judging by the tempo. Tieria’s left hand was flying up and down the fingerboard in a blur. She had thought she knew the Meisters: who they were and what they were like. But if this was anything to judge by, what she knew barely scraped the surface.

“I wonder too…” she murmured, more to herself than to the diplomat staring at her in puzzlement.
