I forgot one
yesterday : the ever confused there, their and they're!
there : referring to a place - The house is over there.
OR
Can also be a function word to introduce a sentence (from Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, 10th edition) - There is a house over there.
their : a possessive adjective (shows possession by several people) - Their house is over there.
They're : a contraction of the subject and verb They + are - They're going to paint their house blue.
I honestly don't know why after 10 ish years in fandom I suddenly felt the need to air this grumble, but there you have it... ;-) Others have said all this before me, and I am sure many will say it again, but there you have it, the
mems_derynicat moment of ranting.
Oh, and something I said once before, but bears repeating : ARCHIVES ARE YOUR FRIEND! Don't hide your fic on your journal, with only a link on a LJ group. What if the mod decides to delete the community? What if a newbie hasn't found that particular group yet? How will new people ever find your story? If you want new people to find your stuff, put it in lots of places including fandom specific archives as well as the big general archives (and I know there is a lot of drivel on FF.net, but if more good writers put their stuff there, it wouldn't have such a reputation for drivel!)
