Scully doesn't want to be stuck inside on a day like today, when the sun is pouring down on D.C. and normal people, people with lives and friends and children and lovers, are playing in the park. She doesn't want to be stuck in this dank, dark basement with a partner who, brilliant though he is, finds looking for the proof of the existence of extra terrestrial life far more interesting than lying on the grass in the park with an ice cream and a book could ever be. But she tries it anyway.
"Mulder, it is such a gorgeous day outside. Have you ever entertained the idea of trying to find life on this planet?"
Immersed in the record book he has open on the desk he doesn't even look at her as he responds. "I have seen the life on this planet, Scully and that is exactly why I am looking elsewhere."
She sighs, at his inattention as much as at the waste of a gorgeous day and opens a paper bag. Sure enough, just as she thought, the rustling gets Mulder's attention.
"Did you bring enough ice cream to share with the rest of the class?"
"It's not ice cream," she replies, lifting the cone to her mouth and taking a bite. "It's a nonfat tofutti rice dreamsicle."
"Ugh," he frowns, turning back to the open book. "Bet the air in my mouth tastes better than that."
She smiles, and doesn't tell him it's chocolate.
