Oh, fandom. Sweet fandom. I have some things to say to you! They all have something to do with Mai and her relationship with Zuko, so there's kind of a theme here.

Do I approve of this assessment? YES. A+++, mems. I enjoy this pairing a great deal--which is saying along, because I don't care for Zuko!

I don't know why people assume just because a character has a strong character trait -- ie, Mai is bored -- means they have no other emotions at all, because obviously these are all 1-dimensional characters that can only be represented one way!

I am one of the people who thought the Zuko/Mai relationship seemed really rushed but also am growing to like it with continued exposure. Because continued exposure is showing how it is relevant to the plot beyond "zomg hormones" and that it will be a pivotal turning point for those involved! It could even--gasp--shed more light on the characters than already shown!

At the same time I do want to see it crash and burn if only because the idea of Zuko vs. Azula in romantic politics makes me inordinately gleeful. This may make me a bad person but I have been waiting for some Fire Nation internal rifts for ages. Give me my political intrigue!

I agree! They dropped the ball something awful when it came to explaining why we go from "oh, Mai liked him when they were wee!" to "oh, they're ... hella making out now?" in the show. As much as I lovelovelove the supplemental comic, it isn't something readily available to most fans and their decision to stick something relatively important in it (without also incorporating it into the show) was not so smart, I feel.

BUT YES. I agree with everything! zomg hormones! Character development! That nasty look Mai shoots Azula as she leaves! kjalsd s-so excited omg. Someone's getting stabbed in the back and I CANNOT WAIT FOR IT.

I'm thoroughly enjoying the Maiko if only for the adorably dweeby lines like "You're so beautiful when you hate the world," but oh Mem, if you keep this up, you're going to make me fall in love with the pairing.
