Hope this is ok... I've been trying to find an avenue where to discuss this.

There are quite a few characters that I'd love to interact with yet haven't found the right post, or they haven't posted in the in the right meme, and when I've tagged the meme, they haven't tagged me.

Any recommendations on how to proceed? I've considered a PM but don't feel like I find the right words without sounding like Carly Rae Jepsen. >_

Are they specific characters played by specific muns, or canon characters? If they're canons, you could try musemostwanted. If they aren't canons, maybe sending them a PM isn't a bad idea? Or, maybe check their journal to see if they have some sort of contact post?

I guess it's more specific characters (I have no idea who the muns are) that I've been intrigued by. Being an OC, sometimes it seems easier than crossing canons but still not as easy as the same canon. It isn't that I want to shack up a character either, I'd love to just have the characters meet and see where it goes.

My experience is send the Mun/muse a PM a message saying something along the lines of "Hey, I love your character, would you like to do a thread" most people are flattered...

Is anyone else missing icons? Several of my accounts - paid and free - are missing icons and no matter how many times I refresh, they won't appear. :/

I only checked this account and no missing icons. I did have one that I haven't used in a while that seemed to ALWAYS mix up icons or lose them completely. Maybe it's layout related? The other journal definitely had a different layout than this one.

Well, I logged into one of my old accounts yesterday and noticed half the icons were gone. I figured it was because I let my paid account expire over a year ago, but today I've noticed that almost all of my accounts are missing at least one icon. And one of my accounts, that I have paid time and extra icons, is missing FIVE icons. >_<

I guess I'll go open a support ticket with LJ.

If an OC replies to me, and their bio is only a few sentences long, would it be rude to send them a PM and ask for more information. I'm asking because I've gotten tags from OCs whose bio contains hardly information since the mun seems more interested in cluttering up their profile with gifs from.tumblr than actually writing their character history. I just want to know who I'm.playing against.

I've had the same problem myself; going to see the profile/journal of an oc I either want to tag or who's tagged me and there's nothing to go off of. I don't think pm'ing and asking for a little info is being rude at all. Just be polite about it and they really shouldn't have anything to be upset about.

I play an OC and I have this same issue. It's nice that you even consider sending a PM. I often don't tag in the premise that 'If they didn't feel like putting any effort into the character, what kind of tags will I be getting?'

It bothers me with anyone, OC or fandom characters if there's nowhere to find their info. I mean, sure, I could wiki a fandom character I don't know but...that doesn't mean that person is using that for their interpretation of the character, etc.

But then I remind myself that technically, if they're just 'meeting' in the thread, then my character won't know anything about them anyway so it shouldn't matter.

Even then, though, it's still a turnoff to get nothing to work with. :/

My biggest concern right now is that when LJ switches to the new (ugly) friends page, RP on here will die even more. I love the people I play with and all my icons are here. Meep.

tbh, this is why I play on both DW and LJ. I don't want to leave LJ because I've been here for so long and I've met some really great people and charcters, but it's becoming more and more difficult to even USE this site, which is making my decision to move for me. All I can say is maybe have accounts on both and try to convince your fave rp partners to do the same. I hope against hope that LJ rp doesn't die, but the environment of LJ is almost seeming to be hostile against rp'ers.

I'll be honest, I hardly ever visit more than here, musemostwanted, Dear Mun and SWS/SSWS so I'm not up on what's going on in LJ. ...I'm usually the last to know what's going on. But I've found I have very little drama surrounding rp this way too.

A lot of the changes have seemed to be anti-rp. Taking away subject lines, having long comment threads break pages, the default way they're trying to make the icon menu the icon browsing one which is a problem for people with a lot of icons and low bandwidth. These are all legitimate issues that have been brought up in news and lj_releases with no notice or mention to them, because 'RPers are less than 1% of the lj population'.
