[Ben has recovered physically from his ordeals. Mentally and emotionally is quite something else. But he can function, as long as strangers don't touch him, and he finally declares himself fit for duty.
Mainly because rattling around with nothing to do is driving him crazy.]
Awesome! [He bounces to his feet and goes into the kitchen, delving into the fridge for bread, cold cuts, cheese, and other accouterments. He's soon got a foursome of enormous sandwiches built, and he gathers up some apples and several cans of soda, packing them expertly into a cooler.]
...and maybe we can get pie on the way home. [He doesn't normally take shameless advantage of the fact that she spoils him, but... they're celebrating, right?]
[Kati laughs, watching him with an indulgent expression. She knows shameless advantage when she sees it, and it bothers her not at all. Hell, she's enjoying it.]
With ice cream. We must do the thing right.
[She retrieves her keys, her pistol, and her jacket, practically whistling she's in such a good mood.]
[Ben tosses the cooler into the backseat and slides into the front. He doesn't buckle up because he never buckles up and no one cares if a wolf is belted in anyway. Restraints don't cause a massive freakout anymore, but he still doesn't like them much.]
so the question is, how mean do we want to be to them here? inwhichwarDecember 25 2012, 01:20:04 UTC
It is, yes. Perfect weather to be out-of-doors.
[That's something Ben has introduced her to enjoying, being outdoors for the sake of it. Her city-acclimated self never had much reason to indulge in outdoor pursuits.]
[He rubs his cuffless wrists a little self-consciously.] I don't go shirtless or anything, because the scars make kids cry. But the water and the sand and the air is just... [He heaves a happy sigh.] Well, it's pretty awesome.
Well, then, we shall make it a priority. I have never been out there, myself.
[Although, in another very far away lifetime, she had her own fondness for waves and sand and sea air. Not that she says anything about that as she pulls out into traffic and steers them towards the lake.]
[She has, by now, taken notice of the dark sedan following them, but she's not highly concerned just yet. Most likely nothing they can't deal with, after all.]
[Ben's noticed it too. Recent events have made him hyper-aware of his surroundings. He angles in his seat so he can see his rear-view mirror better.] Seagulls taste terrible, though. I learned my lesson with the first one.
Well, catfish is good, and they'll eat anything. Seagull, though. [He shudders.] If I'm starving. Assuming there's nothing else. Then I'll eat it. At least they're easy to catch.
[Kati snorts in amusement and very casually maneuvers the car through traffic in an effort to shake their pursuer. She's not sanguine it will work, but one must make the attempt.]
Well. If you ever decide to try it I will not stop you, but do not expect me to indulge.
No, ma'am. Any seagull-nomming will be done by the wolf, not the humans. [The pursuer follows them effortlessly. Ben's mouth twists. At least they'll get to pick their ground, if whoever's in the car has hostile intent.]
Dammit, if those assholes ruin our outing, I am going to be unhappy.

Ach, incorrigible, listen to you. My wolfy Ben.

Blech, why you would try eating a flying rat . . .

...maybe they taste better cooked and seasoned.

[Kati takes the lake road exit; it's familiar terrain and a good enough spot for a confrontation away from prying eyes.]
Whoever they are, they seem to have come without backup.

To them.
But maybe they're just coming to the lake too, and are coincidentally taking the same circuitous route we are. [He snorts.]
