How boring. What do you do during a sugar rush then?

[She's quiet at those words. Then:]

He's marrying me to a hit man?

Your father really doesn't tell you much, does he?

Considering we know each other for a grand total of a two months despite knowing of the others existence for over a year, yes.

I don't know shit. [She peers at her drink.]

Well, contrary to popular belief - and your own amusing misconceptions, Ms. Biasone - we are not, in fact, the mafia.

However, ours is a rather more bloody life than most others. And, I suspect, in his own way your father had hoped to keep you as removed from that as he is able.

[ The fact that is also tied Aubrey closer to him, making any possible plans he may have had rather more difficult to achieve, was also a factor but as it did not involve Amanda he saw no point in mentioning it. ]

Which, I suspect, is where I come in.

I... make assumptions because every male person I speak to doesn't want to tell me things and I'm told all females here are crazy.

I'm a little offended about both at this moment, thanks, but I don't know anything so excuse me for trying to fill in blanks. That's what humans do.

[Like everyone else, thanks, future husband.]

Y'know, he didn't have to contact me. You're cute and all but you're kinda of an ass and I really don't know you. I kinda resent being treated this way, too.

It runs rather counter to our natures to volunteer anything - useful or otherwise.

He needn't have, certainly. But invariably someone would have learned of your existence and then your life would have gotten even more complicated. [ Or she would have died, slowly and painfully. For all the Alder King's faults - and, oh, they were numerous - she was his daughter - his blood - and things like that mattered. ]

So please don't look or treat me like an idiot. There's a difference between ignorance and being willful.

[She sighs, crossing her arms. The drink is gone. It might have been the drink that got her so uppity.]

Oh. Oh, so I guess there's more who know about me than you, me, Father, and Mom. Because that information is something you want to spread far and wide.

I don't think you're an idiot, Ms. Biasone. Far from it, in fact.

However, there are forces at work of which you are unaware - and for good reason - so you will simply have to trust in us a while longer and once the deed is done we can discuss how we move forward.

[ Because, regardless of what either may feel on the matter the marriage will be going forward. ]

It need not be so difficult between us.

I'll assume it's cultural thing.

... are we talking about the marriage? That deed, right? Because you've got a million irons in the fire from what I'm guessing.

Yeah, well, people end up having a good working relationships in marriages. I mean I was raised in True Love Forever despite 50% of the marriages fail culture. I kinda noticed love is not the reason why people should get married.

seems to be shaping up that way. come to the dark side, 'manda. there are cookies and stuff. ofthefolk December 30 2012, 18:58:05 UTC
My age is showing, I fear.

I would be lying if I said that marriage was something I'd envisioned for myself, but as you have said there is no reason that it cannot be made to suit both our needs.

Might be. Just a little. A scooch.

Oh, oh man. No wonder he wants me to marry you if he's so over protective about me. You're gay, aren't you? ... Wait, do they have gay marriage among fae? Because if they do I'll just write you off a commitment-phobic.

Of course, you're not gonna tell me your needs until after the Honeymoon, right?

My preferences shouldn't be an issue.

That would be the wiser decision.

Okay.

[She quietly sets down the glass, suddenly feeling drained. It's like talking to an automaton.]

What do I do until then? Brush my hair a million times?

Whatever you please.

I'm hardly here to run your life, Ms. Biasone. Regardless of what you may think.

You are planning something. And even if I'm not human I think like one.

So what would be your advice in making sure my head doesn't get lopped off?
