Uncalled for, but the apology is nice. Maybe a little unexpected, but deserved, Bruce thinks, so there. He glances at Tony over his shoulder as he reaches for the samples they'd been working with ( ... )

It's beeping loudly again now, now that Bruce is distracted from reaching into himself and controlling his body. He twists against Tony, but it's hard to tell if he's twisting away from his hand and his mouth, or just trying very hard not to lean into both. Sighing, he holds up his wrist with the watch on it; it's flashing 167.

"I know all of that's working fine. That's the problem." He wants this so badly he's not just battling his heart to stay calm, he's battling the urge to give in and take, and that's getting harder to fight off.

Tony groans, disgruntled, and rolls out of bed. "Fine. You wanna stop? Me too." Lie. "You're just going to give me blue balls and that's something for teenagers that dry hump themselves to jean burns on their thighs."

He's giving Bruce his way out. They can be friends again tomorrow.

"I should probably flush my eye out again. Good job at being a doctor." Ouch, though. His sarcasm is turned on shockingly high.

Oh, ouch. Not a good time to push Bruce, really; he's already vulnerable and on edge and struggling to bring himself back in. He sits up in bed, glaring at Tony's back.

"Give you -- Do you even have any idea how hard this is?"

No, whatever. He could explain how he has to balance thinking about his heart and not killing Tony and then maybe he might find a second to actually enjoy this, but you know, he doesn't feel like it. Probably better if he doesn't. He can just lick his wounds, and -- and run. It's what he should've done in the first place. He swings his legs off the bed and starts hunting for his shirt.

"Your eye's fine. Thanks for playing Hulk Roulette, sorry you didn't get to win the big prize. I know you want to."

Tony lets him go, even though he knows he shouldn't. He lets him go because Bruce isn't ready and because this never should have happened in the first place. Tony doesn't do guilt or remorse on a level that he'd ever tell anyone about so he heads into the bathroom and shuts the door.

He'll wait for Bruce to leave before he comes out.

And tomorrow, he'll pretend that none of this happened.

Because he can. And he must. Or their friendship is finished. The rest can be bottled up in forevers and regrets.
