[Mary struggles to weave her way through the crowd before pausing in the middle, sighing into her glass of punch.]

I have lost my date, I think.

[Rose made a face.] Happens more than you'd think. They run off?

[Ironic that it's what she asks given her tendency to do the same if you asked the Doctor.]

Perfect!

Chances are... he has been coerced, dragged, or coaxed out of here.

[She laments jokingly, of course. She usually understands.]

[Rose chuckles.]

Sounds like me. [She holds her hand out.] I'm Rose. Rose Tyler.

[Mary grins brightly and shakes her hand.] Mary Morstan. It's a pleasure.

I take it you're the one being dragged off most of the time?

[comingwith]

Yeah, usually the coerced or wandering off. Time or two I've been dragged. [More than a time or two if you asked the Doctor.] Though usually find my way back. Your date probably will, too.

It's more likely that I'll come home and find him a little bruised and battered. Shenanigans, I'm sure you know. [Understatement of the year.]

Trouble magnet? Yeah know someone like that though he'd say I was the one that was the magnet.

Well, who's correct in this instance? His name wouldn't be Sherlock Holmes, would it?

[comingwith]

Oh I'm always right. [Rose grinned then shook her head.] Nope he's not -- [She paused when she realized the other woman had said Sherlock Holmes.]

Sorry, thought I saw someone. [She hoped she'd explained away her momentary surprise.] Nope, he's called the Doctor.

I'm sorry, I thought I'd replied! It hadn't gone through :(

Of course you are. [Mary chuckles when Rose grins before glancing over her shoulder at the pause.]

Oh! Well, I suppose that's for the better. Sherlock would've claimed he was right. Who is this Doctor?

No worries at all! I hate when that happens

A friend. He likes to say that he's a Doctor of everything. [She rolls her eyes but there's fondness in her tone.]

Thinks quite highly of himself, but I like to put a little hole in his ego from time to time.

[mmorstan]

Ooh, I know someone like that. [She laughs good naturedly, shaking her head.]

Of course, these men are likely brilliant. But it's good to remind a man that he isn't infallible.

Brings him down a bit but I also agree when he is sort of brilliant.

[Rose's tongue flashed out of the side of her mouth in a teasing grin.]

Just not as much as I poke holes in the ego.

[Mary giggles into her almost-finished glass of punch, taking another sip before setting it aside somewhere on a table.]

I think everyone deserves a good ego poking, honestly. It reminds us all that we're human.
