Concentrating, he clapped and placed his hands on the ground, making spires of rocks shoot out from under each melon.

Though, in this case, Ed supposed there was some weird magic protecting them. Seeing as how the last time someone mixed magic with alchemy, the results were... undesirable, he certainly didn't want to try.
Well, then. Ed knocked on the melon a few more times for good measures before standing and picking it up.

So, glaring at the melon, he tried to hug it, squeeze it, punch it, and kick it.

Grumbling, he clapped, grabbed a stick, and transformed it into a bat/racket hybrid, and tried smacking the melon with that.
Maybe into a tree.

Ed started to transmute more things, making a hand of rocks and soil come out of the ground to grab it, squeeze it, and bat at it.

Time to try another tactic.
He grabbed a few branches, transmuted them into a kind of net, and hunt the melon from a branch before proceeding to smack at it there.
