Melon Field 2 [Yuri]

The forest north of the village stretches to the mountain ridge bordering the sea. But before the narrow mountain pass to the sea, before the end of the forest can quite be seen, there is a melon field. The land is a little hilly here, and the forest around it is uneven, but the field itself is perfectly leveled and square. Although interest in the ( Read more... )

Agrias raised an eyebrow as she and her band of tagalongs- who were there solely to break the mystery of the melons, and for no ulterior reason -approached the field.

"I honestly can't say I noticed these before..." The knight mused, bending down and prodding Blue Melon #4. "My, they are rather large melons, aren't they?"

"S-Singing?" Agrias stammered. "I cannot sing... But if sound is the key, perhaps we should try yelling?"

She crouched down next to the melon. "Er... ATTENTION, MELON! YOU WILL OPEN AT ONCE!"

Not everyone in the world could be a melonhugger!

Subaru was definitely a melon lover though, not that she would put it that way. "Y-yeah! Open! Please?"

. . . . .

The melon sat as if waiting still. Though waiting implied it expected something and that was just silly. Melons don't "expect" things, right?

"Stupid melon, open when a sweet girl asks you to!" Heather glared at the melon.

"I can only imagine how foolish we must look, yelling at a piece of fruit." Agrias frowned. "We were closest with singing, I think. The lullaby seemed to work to an extent... What else can we sing?"

The melon meanwhile waited, once more cool to the touch just like every other melon left in the field.

"Hmmm..." Subaru hemmed and hawed for a moment, looking down at the melon in her arms. "Do you know any... choir or church music?"

Agrias had been spending a lot of time at the church for her training as a healer, and had picked up some hymns along the way. She wasn't particularly religious- not that Memento had much in the way of an organized religion -but the tunes were catchy, and had a way of sticking in the mind.

She'd be damned if she was caught singing out here in publi, though. "I... Well, yes, I suppose I could attempt a hymnal. Quietly."

"Sounds like a good a plan as any. I certainly don't know any songs." Heather crossed her arms, getting frustrated that the stupid melon was managing to leave the three women so stumped.

Agrias picked up the melon and held it close, singing VERY quietly. It didn't sound awful, but her face was beet red. "Now is the healing time decreed... for sins of heart, of word or deed..."

Still nothing. The melon sat without reaction despite the three ladies' beautiful attempts at wooing it with song.

"Perhaps we ought to broaden our attack range?" Agrias mused, hoping to divert the subject away from her singing. She picked up Greens #1 and #2. "I've heard these react to water... Any ideas?"

"May as well start with water, of course." She thought for a moment and added, "Water from the apartments, from the lake, the beach, or some really hot or cold water. Hopefully nothing too strange, but, tck, knowing this place, who knows?"

"Let's just go swimming with some green melons in different places. They'd make great floating devices, and if nothing else, we got to go swimming."

"Not a bad idea!" Agrias agreed. Still, there was one idea troubling her. Frowning, she muffled her distaste and spat on both melons. "Bah. So crude..." But if it worked, it was worth it.
