Melon Field 2 [Yuri]

Jul 08, 2008 23:47

The forest north of the village stretches to the mountain ridge bordering the sea. But before the narrow mountain pass to the sea, before the end of the forest can quite be seen, there is a melon field. The land is a little hilly here, and the forest around it is uneven, but the field itself is perfectly leveled and square. Although interest in the ( Read more... )

Agrias raised an eyebrow as she and her band of tagalongs- who were there solely to break the mystery of the melons, and for no ulterior reason -approached the field.

"I honestly can't say I noticed these before..." The knight mused, bending down and prodding Blue Melon #4. "My, they are rather large melons, aren't they?"

"Mm-hmm! Aren't they cute?" Subaru laughed as she rolled over some melon vines towards Blue 4 as well and knelt down next to it, rubbing it's smooth, blue exterior.

"Oh, are we supposed to rub them?" Agrias wondered aloud. "Seems a rather... roundabout method of agriculture..."

"Ehehe... I don't know. I've never grown melons, and I don't remember handling them before. How about you, Heather?"

Like a good scientist, Ginko wasn't about to just assume the rumors were true; he had to see it for himself.

Well, the first rumor was confirmed; they were definitely multi-colored. He crouched down and poked at Green 1. "I wonder if they altered the other ones and then didn't alter these green ones..."

He pulled out his knife, and griped it backhand. "If you don't mind, I think I'll take a sample," he said to the melon or to the melon's owner, it was hard to say. With mild strength, he stabbed down, wondering briefly if Haruhi would be angry at him for going after mystical melons alone.

The melon in question was rather dirty, smudged all over with dirt from the ground, but the knife simply slid off to the side, not even marring the green skin in the slightest.

As Haruhi entered the melon patch, she noticed her former science teacher chipping away at one of them with a knife. Or at least, trying to.

She approached Ginko and his experiment. "Hey. What's with these melons?"

Ginko twiddled the knife in his fingers, staring at the unstabbed-melon while answering. "...That's just what I was trying to figure out. Apparently no one's been able to break one open.

After pocketing his knife, he picked up the (same) melon, held it to his ear, and shook it a little. "No one's been able to get it open even with the extremely strong attacks the people here possess."

Haruko strode into the melon grove with purpose, as if she had some idea what she was doing. Without a word, she picked up Green Melon 5 and Red Melon 5, and took them with her out of the grove.

Both melons sat peaceably in Haruko's care for the time being.

Haruko strode back into the field confidence boosted by having broken one melon, and tossed the green melon back onto the ground. She picked up a blue melon (#1), looked at it for a while, then started to do all sorts of things to it.

[[In this order:
-Kicking it
-Hitting it into a tree using her guitar like a baseball bat
-Singing bad karaoke at it
-Shouting at it
-Punching it repeatedly
-Hitting it against other melons of different colors
-Running around outside of the field bashing it against trees
-Playing random bass notes at it
-Burying it, jumping on it, then digging it back up
-Throwing it really high and then guitaring it when it comes back down
-Biting it
-Hitting it against the mountain
-Finally, rolling it down the mountainside and losing it]]

The blue melon took all the terrible abuse laid upon it with a quiet dignity like only a melon could. Of course, it also showed not a hint of pain or scarring.

After five minutes sitting at the base of the mountain side it reappears in the field, resting easy over its ordeal with the crazed guitar-wielding demon-woman.

Or maybe it was just sitting there like a melon. The first makes for a better story though.

Lust knew that island wasn't a normal one, but she had never expected to see a filed of melons. Especially that she was quite sure it had not been there a few days ago.

"Interesting~" She said, looking down at red melon #3. Turning her pointing finger into blade, she squatted next to the fruit and tried to cut it.

The bladed finger stopped at the skin and would not penetrate it as the melon rolled slightly at the movement, but nothing much else.

Lust frowned. So far, her fingers were able to cut through everything. Why wouldn't it work on a melon?

But she wouldn't give up. She turned all fingers of her right hand into razor-sharp blades and struck the fruit.

The melon sat there unharmed as if to say "nope, zip, nada" to the woman's attempts.

Interesting.

Juudai stared at rainbow melon 1 for a long, long time. Were melons even supposed to be rainbow? It didn't really seem natural, but... no one else seemed to be questioning it.

And besides, everyone else was doing this, right?

He knelt beside it and rapped on it to get a feel for the physical properties of the melon.

It felt just like any other melon besides the shiny-shimmery-ness of its skin. Oh and the rainbow color of course. But other than that, just a melon sitting there as if just waiting for someone to figure it out and eat it... or not. It didn't exactly have a death wish. It was a melon.

...Or maybe it did have a death wish, because from what Juudai understood, the melons -- all of them -- were stubbornly refusing to open by normal means.

So, with a sigh, he figured it was time to start experimenting with it. Hoisting it up, he had a sudden, curious notion, and turned, deciding to chuck it almost randomly at rainbow melon 2.

The two melons collided and both bounced apart and rolled until coming to a stop, completely unscathed and shimmering just as they were before, just a little duller from a light coating of dirt on their skins from their travel.

However, one could assume that if a melon could express itself, they would be quite offended at the sudden unprovoked violence, but only if one could assume that.
