Melon Field 2 [Yuri]

The forest north of the village stretches to the mountain ridge bordering the sea. But before the narrow mountain pass to the sea, before the end of the forest can quite be seen, there is a melon field. The land is a little hilly here, and the forest around it is uneven, but the field itself is perfectly leveled and square. Although interest in the ( Read more... )

Agrias raised an eyebrow as she and her band of tagalongs- who were there solely to break the mystery of the melons, and for no ulterior reason -approached the field.

"I honestly can't say I noticed these before..." The knight mused, bending down and prodding Blue Melon #4. "My, they are rather large melons, aren't they?"

"Mm-hmm! Aren't they cute?" Subaru laughed as she rolled over some melon vines towards Blue 4 as well and knelt down next to it, rubbing it's smooth, blue exterior.

"Oh, are we supposed to rub them?" Agrias wondered aloud. "Seems a rather... roundabout method of agriculture..."

"Ehehe... I don't know. I've never grown melons, and I don't remember handling them before. How about you, Heather?"

Seriously, this is almost too easy. Ah well, still loads of fun~ Heather thought to herself. "Mmhmm, I'm pretty good at handling melons, you could say. Rubbed a few in my time, even." She stared at Blue Melon 4, the one Subaru was...caressing. Subaru caressing melons. Caressing...Subaru...melons...

Right. Heather shook her head. "How 'bout we just try stabbing one?"

Agrias raised her empty hands helplessly. "I'm afraid I didn't bring a weapon. Heather, you claim to have experience handling melons- would you do the honors?"

"That's kinda brutal, don't you think? I mean, they're like... unbreakable melons, right?" Continues caressing the melon.

"I'd be honored, of course." Not hearing Subaru's comment, Heather, in a blur of motion, pulled out her large knife, flicked her wrist, and sent it shooting straight at blue melon 4. Completely avoiding Subaru, of course~

The knife simply bounces off the thick skin of the melon and clatters to the ground. And it continues to sit there unmarked.

"Come to think of it... Take a look at the patterns." Agrias bent down and pointed at one of the spots on the melon. "Doesn't it look a bit like a music note?"

"Huh... I guess it sorta is... so what, you think we need to sing to it?" Subaru clapped her hands together in a bright flash of joy. "Don't plants supposedly like being sung to when they're watered?"

"Get some water, someone!" Subaru said as she began to cradle the melon and sing lullabies to it.

Oddly enough as Subaru lifted the melon up and began singing to it, the blue melon grew warmer as if in response to the girl's attentions. But maybe it was just one's imagination as well. It certainly wasn't breaking open in any case...

She paused for a moment... "Hey guys... touch the melon while I'm singing and ... uh... tell me if you notice anything." She began to sing the lullabies again.

Heather placed a hand on the melon, curious as to what Subaru was suggesting. She was surprised to find the melon growing warm. "Maybe...you two are right. Those do look like music notes and it's doing SOMETHING when you sing to it. I really wouldn't put it past this place to do something as strange as that." She paused for a second, listening to Subaru's lullabies.

"So, uh, do we sing to it until it opens or something?"

The melon stopped warming up after a few more moments despite the continued singing. Apparently it was growing bored if a melon could. Or maybe it fell asleep.... if a melon could.

"Eh, I dunno, if we're gonna sing, maybe we should try singing something else. Maybe it just wants a good conversation. No clue~"
