Well, after two days of this with only slight signs of improvements, I decided to call the doctor first thing this morning. I'd feel silly taking him in for a cold, but he's never kept a fever for more than 24 hours and that concerned me. So I took him in, shared all my observations, including a couple of times that he pointed to his ears and ( Read more... )

He's seemed noticeably better today, at least a little more talkative and slightly more active. So here's hoping he's on the mend.

Poor thing, hope he gets well soon.

Yeah, no one turns down fries.

He already seems much better. He's not entirely running laps around the house, but he's definitely playing and doesn't seem to be in pain anymore.

Eh, I've been known to turn down fries. They have to be good fries or else I just want nothing to do with them.

Well, true. Sucky fries are really yucky. But good ones are so numm numm.

I'm so glad to hear that he is already feeling better. Hopefully he will continue to improve.

Lets go hiking again when the weather gets a bit warmer if ya wanna? :-)

Absolutely I want to go hiking! I hear it's supposed to be nice this weekend actually. I'm seeing 68 degrees for a high Saturday on ForecastFox/Accuweather right now. That's down right balmy!

Amoxicillin is a Miracle Drug when it comes to ear infections. My girls were always much better after only a couple of doses, and back to normal within 48 hours.

There's a lot of medical talk about antibiotics not being necessary for an ear infection, that you should just let the infection take its course, but IMHO that is malpractice, plain and simple. Most likely the studies were done by researchers that either don't have kids, or whose kids never had an ear infection, or are certifiably sadistic. [/pharmaceutical rant]

Did the doc give you anything topical for pain? Auralgan otic drops used to be prescribed for that, but it may no longer be on the market. And I always gave the girls Dimetapp Elixir, which also WAS a Miracle Drug, but is no longer. The composition of Dimetapp is nothing like it was back in the '80s... [refraining from another pharmaceutical rant]

Hope he's running circles around you soon! lol

Indeed! Just like you said, two doses yesterday and this morning was the first morning he woke up without tears in 3 days. Today he's up and running around. Not quite top speed yet, but noticeably better and doesn't seem to be in pain.
