I didn't plan on writing a new fandom today. Wow.

The title is a quote from C.S. Lewis. I feel a little weird quoting a christian apologist on a fic about a jewish character, but the quote inspired the whole fic, so I really hope it doesn't offend.

To be honest I have no idea if Schmidt and his colleagues' non-counterfeit buttons would have had enough base metal for Erik to use or not. I was interested in Schmidt being delighted with Erik and then killing the tailor seconds later, so I went with it. Mea culpa. I promise to be a good author and research these details for future fic.
