Crappy Car Dealers

We didn't have too many plans Saturday and Joshua went to his grandparent's house for a sleepover, so Mike and Melanie and I decided to go check out some mini vans.  We're already a little cramped in my Chevy Malibu and when we have a new baby, we're definitely going to need the space.  My car is starting to have little problems here and there, so ( Read more... )

Unfortunally, that's how the game is played... :( It's better to be informed and have as much info as possible or people like that will try to take advantage of you. And the truth is, he really was trying to take advantage. Say, you loved the car and didn't go home and investigate, maybe you would walk back in ready to sign the paper work at the price he quoted. It sucks, but that's what they hope for...

I've cooled down a bit about it and realized that if someone really paid that amount without researching it, then they must have a good amount of money. I mean, it's a major purchase, so people with a budget are expected to check it out, right? I guess I can understand that it's his commission, but it still left a bad taste in my mouth. I'll study up a bit before venturing onto a lot again......

You definitely have to arm yourself with information or else they will try to take advantage of you because they think you are a sucker.

I hate that! I wanted salespeople to EDUCATE me about the cars, not trick me! I mean, it seems stupid to have to know everything about cars before asking questions about cars! But it's true. :(

I agree with you. Car dealers are just about the scum of the earth. I know first hand because I worked for a car dealer... talk about two faced. Sweet talking the customers then in the "finance managers office" saying "These fuckin' idiots!" And not like it was just one or two of them, ALL of them did that.

Yeah - kind of like when I waitressed and would watch my co-workers trick people into double tipping them (when the gratuity was already included on a large party). They called it "double bang" and everyone's goal was to get that. They would high-five each other! Their rationale was that if the customers were too "stupid" or too "rich" to notice, then they deserved to have to pay more.

I knew better and that tricking people is really just a legal way to steal and I'm not a thief. I have no interest in money I didn't earn. So I always highlighted the gratuity and circled it and TOLD them about it while I handed them the check. Sometimes they'd slip me an extra $10 just for good service. Sometimes not. I usually went home with less money than the others, but at least I kept my dignity.

I can't STAND the thought of someone thinking I'm stupid. And he must have had dollar signs in his eyes when he saw me! Sweet friendly girl who knows nothing about cars! Jackpot!

Nice car!

There's definitely a reason why they say "Never trust a car salesman" I should know..my uncle is one. ;) It's sad to think that there are people who would take the prices he gave without a second thought. Glad you didn't!

Thanks - I love that car!

I had a feeling I should look online because that figure just sorta rolled off his tongue. Glad I did. And I feel sorry for people who don't!
