For some reason that's a lot more drama than I was expecting! But I love drama. Especially the outlandish kind that you're forced to clarify you aren't actually making up.
Example: AND THEN CYNDI LAUPER CAME TO TOWN TO DO A CONCERT FOR GAY RIGHTS AND DEDICATED "TRUE COLORS" TO LUKE AND NOAH, CAUSING NOAH TO ADMIT HE WAS A DOUCHE AND BEG LUKE TO TAKE HIM BACK, RIGHT BEFORE REVEALING HE COULDN'T HAVE SEX BECAUSE HE DECIDED TO ENLIST IN THE ARMY. LOLOLOLWUT?
Currently Romana is not present. She is canonically a missing person (war casualty other than confirmed dead).
There's a chance that she'll return at some point in the future depending on where Steven Moffat (new producer, a fan of the character) decides to go. And since anybody can write for Doctor Who (AND I MEAN ANYBODY--coughrusselltdaviescough) it may be within my power at some point in the future.
Possibly my favourite summary of Doctor/Romana ever.
You know, part of me would love to see the triumphant return of Romana in the new series. But I just know that even if that were to happen, they'd somehow manage to screw it up.
To be fair, the new series does stop sucking at times.
...And then, of course, it realises that that's probably against the rules or something, and makes up for it by sucking twice as hard. (Journey's End, I'm looking at you.) Here's hoping things will be different under Moffat.
Even if Moffat sucks, his view of canon seems so much less imperialistic than Davies. Growing up I was taught to take up my burdens myself rather than asking anybody else to. Being a batshit Romanafan is my burden and if Steven Moffat doesn't take it up IT LOOKS LIKE I'M GOING TO HAVE TO!!

IS THE DRAMA A BAD THING? I JUST THINK IT UNDERSCORES HOW EPIC, UNIVERSE-SPANNING, AND ETERNAL THEIR LOVE IS!
You go do that. LOOK HARD.

QUESTION! IS ROMANA STILL PART OF THE SERIES? AND IF NOT, IS THERE A CHANCE SHE WILL RETURN?
