I see a dentist in mt wav and he just does a checkup & clean when i see him... If there's nothing growing in or causing you grief there shouldn't be need for more than that?

Do they charge much for this? I am completely out of the loop on average prices for cleaning/+checkup...

Thanks!

I was in the same circumstance as you are and went to TLC Family Dental Group in nunawading - they are excellent! I had Dr Linda Lao. Really cheap too.

I can't remember the cost but it wasn't much :-) I remember they told me how much when I called though, they're really up front about pricing.

Oh, thanks!! Will definitely look into that/them/her. Cheers!

Also, love the icon. I see you around trickseybird's journal sometimes, and always think it. Heh heh. (Yay, LJ-ers.) *smiles*

Haha small world! I always think I should change it for a default but it makes me laugh too much ;-)

I think you can do this. Whenever I go to my dentist I seem to have to specify that I WANT a clean and not just a checkup. Recently (because I didn't specify) I went back just for a clean and that was just with the hygienist, not the dentist, and she didn't refer back to anything the dentist had done/said. So I think if you ring up and just book a clean they'd do it.

I wouldn't recommend my place though. I go there because it's convenient to work but it's overpriced. I think the clean I had last time was about $100 after health insurance paid a pitiful amount. I'm sure you ould find osmething more reasonable than that if you have a health care card.

Thanks! It's good to know. I suspected one *could* do this, but like I said, have been out of the loop. I'll have a ring around!

Essendon might be a bit far but I can recommend my dentist, Paul McMahon, with a great deal of confidence! He does a check-up and clean for $80 (I've seen over dentists in the area with special deals for the same thing at $130). When I had my first appointment with him I approached it like you - a casual check-up/clean - but now I make a point of going every 3 months because he charges well below the average and does such an amazing job. He's also excellent at catching out anything that may be a problem in the future so that it's dealt with then and there rather than getting worse with time and requiring more $ to fix the issue. (P.S. I'm in the same boat as you with no private cover and a HCC - I believe the latter *may* entitle you to some kind of service at the Royal Dental Hospital but I'm not overly sure)

Thank you! That's great info. I'll have a look around a bit closer, but will keep him in mind if it's a future thing. :) Appreciated!

I saw my dentist for a general checkup ($46) & clean ($87) last week, at Ferntree Gully. My health insurance covered it all though. That's a rough guideline for what to expect price wise!
