First of all, Alex Bledsoe is a classy and thoughtful guy. Most of you know I was laid off (OMG FOUR months ago!!) and so my book buying funds have pretty much dried up. On Twitter, my friend Zombie Joe was kind enough to offer me The Sword Edged Blonde (
my review). I used it as a teaser to get myself to workout and BOY did it work!! So then I posted my review and found
Alex Bledsoe's website to let him know how much I absolutely enjoyed it. Mr. Bledsoe responded and asked me if I'd like an ARC of the next book. *JAW DROP* See? Classy and thoughtful.
I finished
Burn Me Deadly a couple weeks ago so I apologize that this is late but I think it will be ok since this way it's closer to the release date, November 10th (an auspicious day seeing as it's the day after my birthday). So start reading the first one!!
Mr. Bledsoe did it again with this story. The dark noire type detective novel with a fantasy twist. And what's even better? It's something I realized as I finished this second novel... it's a fantasy novel and magic isn't 'in your face'. Magic is almost fantasy in the fantasy novel. I hope I'm not giving too much away with that but it really surprised me how I was in a fantasy novel and no one really uses magic. But a large part comes from Eddie Lacrosse and his 'see it to believe it' attitude. You can claim magical powers all you want, but unless he sees it, it doesn't exist. And he sees alot.
Also a nice side of the book. Eddie is a detective and you get tons of descriptors. For alot of novels, it would seem like overkill but b/c of who Eddie is, it's a perfect fit. Precise, to the point, and possibly important information. You just suck it up as you read and wonder which tidbit will be the next hidden clue.
Congratulations to Mr. Bledsoe on another fine story. I hope that there are alot more Eddie books. They are a wonderful read. He also has a new novel out that is vampires in the 60's (I hope I have that right) and while vamps aren't really 'my thing', he tells such a good story I'm going to have to get my hands on it to see what other voices he writes in.
