Hi Mel. Well you know how I love this fic, but it's not a chore to tell you again! There's something so other-wordly about it, there's always this sense that things are not quite right but you are not sure what those things are. Everything is not as it should be. I'm completely hooked on it, and how you write their desolate lives and how they have come together.

The scene in Jack's apartment when he insisted on getting the water and rags for Ennis was in parts heartbreaking but in others it was so romantic....they have clearly sensed something between each other, but cannot name it yet. I hope it's not too long before Ennis comes back to see Jack.

Thanks Mel for such a gorgeous and haunting story.

You are so right.... It's obscure, isn't it ;-)?
But everything will unfold within the next chapters. I hope you enjoy your vacation !

All the desolation and the pain and the loneliness and the ghosts of the past of what they thought life never was and/or would/will never be....all that will crumble under the beautifull weight of the last sentence "“Jack, I swear...,“ Ennis whispered. “I'll be back.“".
Thanks
Happy

Yes, they finally talked and they recognized how much they have in common. I huge relief for both of them...

This is such a great update. Glad to see it.
This story just really tugs at my heart.
They are both so lonely and are finding a
friend where none was expected !!!!

That's right. They both really had no hope to finally find someone who could understand their haunted souls...

I like the similarities of Ennis wound caused by that bear of a man to the bear sighting accident in the film. And Jack's attempted ministering of Ennis's wound reminded me of that part in the film as well.

I loved the last part where Ennis lifted Jack's chin gently and promised to come back. I hope it's soon.
I'm really looking forward to your next chapter. : )

Yes - I admit I love to play with certain scenes from the movie just because they are so unique and so timeless in their beauty and their deeper meaning... I think there's no story that I've written so far where scenes from the movie are missing...
