After an intensive study of Van Gogh, where I cracked the code that lead me to make a successful duplicate of Starry Night, I decided to see if I could extrapolate that style for a bit and attempt my own impressionistic work.  This is actually a rendition of my own abode.  It turned out more as less as expected, though a few “realistic” effects ( Read more... )

Very cool idea, and executed so well. Do you hang your art in your home?

Oh yes, at this point I don't have much space left in which to hang artwork. But I've painted a few things for friends/relatives, so my paintings have "colonized" half a dozen other houses.

My husband has a beautiful art collection, much of it by his own hand. When we are actually living in our own home, I love having it on display. The walls do get pretty full. Do you do other mediums besides paint?

I also do stained glass work here and there (foiled, not camed). If you go back far enough using the "art" tag you can see the panels in my kitchen. But painting is quite enough for me most times - these last three years I've only done one painting a year.

do you see yourself making another attempt that's more impressiony? I like this one as it is, but I'm curious to see how far you could take the concept!

Maybe at some point. I've always wanted to try something similar to Monet's poplar trees and/or poppy fields. I appreciate impressionism in a big way, but it doesn't fit my proclivity for detail and clean lines very well. I have a long term goal to wean myself away from "representational" painting, but I suspect it will be in the form of some variant of cubism (not surprisingly, given that I am an Art Deco fiend).
