1) I didn't expect this one from you. I've never thought of you liking Springstein. So this was a surprise.
2) Band on the Run is a favorite of mine as well. I never thought of how surreal the lyrics were when I sang them. But seeing them in print... yeah, Sir Paul must have wrote them while under the influence of some of his less legal garden plants. I didn't know that James Coburn was on the cover photo.
3) My 4th year French teacher introduced me to Bolero back in 11th grade. Her intro, "this is the most sensual piece of music ever written." I have to agree. Definitely a top B letter classical piece.
4) I wouldn't have thought of Blackbird. It's a Beatles' song I don't think of too often.
5) Okay, I confess. The idea of Roy Schneider having anything to do with the song Bye, Bye Love absolutely blows my mind. (Obviously, I haven't seen All That Jazz.) Ben Vereen, I can imagine. But Roy Schneider?!
1 - Hmmm. That's right. You didn't know me in the seventies (or not much; when did we meet?). From the time I read reviews of his early shows in Playboy on through the album that followed "The River"--infuriatingly the title escapes me right now--major Springsteen fan. Even saw him live twice, at the Hampton Coliseum. Still like him, if not quite as passionately.
2 - Don't think Macca needs herbal aids to write odd lyrics but coulda been. I think I'm right about the cover, but I will try to double check.
5 - Heh, heh, heh. No, one doesn't think of Roy Scheider as a song-and-dance man, but he does a terrific job playing Bob Fosse Joe Gideon in All That Jazz. He's not a great singer, of course, but he so embodies the character. Plus, the song is considerably reworked. We do have the DVD. You have been warned.
1 - We didn't meet until Sci-Con 4. (My first con. You were working the pre-reg check-in.) So that should have been 1982.
3 - Still blows my mind. I always assume Scheider got the role for his acting alone. (Like Michael Douglas in A Chorus Line.) Never occurred to me that he would actually sing in the movie. I still don't think I would like to see the whole film, but I am curious to see a sample or two.
OT: Regarding Kevin McCarthy. I checked his IMDb entry. He guest starred in lots of 1 or 2 episode appearance of numerous shows I've watched over the years. That's likely where I recognized his face without really knowing who he was. He was one of those actors I just saw a lot appearances by.
