Stuff and things

Horses: Welllll, my ride this morning (in the dark, on a dark horse) was cut short by a freak wind/rain/dirt/sand/branches storm that came out of nowhere. Mac's but started having a tempo of its own, so I kinda figured since I couldn't sit straight in the saddle against the wind, it was a good time to get off on my own terms ;) Did some really nice ( Read more... )

Good luck with Nanowrimo!! I wld definitely like to be included on the filter!

I'm working my way up to doing it one year but it won't be this year! I need to get a better grip on my general blockedness with writing, cos otherwise I'm just setting myself to fail!

We don't get winds like that here! It sounds very challenging to ride in!!

what I like about NanoWriMo is that it helped me get OVER my writer's block. Because all of a sudden, it didn't have to be perfect. Didn't matter if I was writing a plot hole, because two paragraphs later, I could write 'wait, that doesn't work. Maybe instead of going to the barn, she goes to her house. Yeah. That's the ticket.' ;)I'll look forward to helping you finish next year, then!

>I'll look forward to helping you finish next year, then!<

Hee! Thank you! I will definitely take you up on that! ;-) I think that's one of the things I've never actually tried with my writing - having a writing-buddy! But I've noticed how much more I enjoy writing for LJ where people are reading what I'm writing and I'm getting little bits of feedback, and I'm starting to think that some kind of communal writing might really help me! Lots to think about for next Nov!

Half pass:

I find it greatly helps to begin with soulder-in since you're setting yourself up in the proper shape, and then you supposedly just GLIDE sideways... it's what I'm told anyhow... Not always riding horses that glide sideways :-p

However, to keep the sideways progression, I've been told to look in the direction of travel, and the tidbit that helps me the most is pressing the outside thigh into the saddle to help move the horse sideways and orient the seat properly.

ooh. I'll try the thigh thing. I've been told by two people that I'm turning my body TOO much in the direction of travel... kind of trying to HELP Lacey over too much, I think. I get about 2 glidey steps, then 2 pretty good ones, then we loose our mojo to the side, and it's back to shoulder in we go. I think the mojo loss happens when I start to fiddle my seat around, you're right. Good things, thanks.

:) Hope it helps. I tend to want to do TOO MUCH also, esp. in lateral work. i think it comes from riding so many greenies, that I always feel like I have to work and support every damned stride. But by the time training reaches half pass work, hopefully the horse is confirmed enough in the aids and basics that you can apply the aid and "coast" until the next movement (by coast, I don't mean do nothing... just support the balance, etc... not over-aiding ( ... )

Oh yes, another Wordle fan! I also love Holly Lisle's site; her article on writer's block deserves to be reread every month or so. I'll definitely have to check out some of these other links... um, before NaNo starts. Because I'm not supposed to be spending large chunks of time on the Internet in November. Right.

That photograph is beautiful and so full of happiness.
